N15 GTI Gearbox question

Hi Guys.
Recently started struggling to get GTI into 1st gear whilst standing still. There are various means in which to remedy the issue somewhat like slight rev before trying to engage 1st (seldom works) or get the car to move a bit in 2nd gear the select first again and so on. Bottom line, no speed, bloody difficuilt to select gear. I will try and adjust the cable but why would it go into 2nd easy enough but not 1st? Will also change box oil on weekend. Clutch is jumpy as is but concerned 1st is going.. any suggestions??

Thanks

Maybe a worn mount causing the engine to lean and make it harder to engage gear( don't know but at least it sounds like I know what I'm talking about)

new one to me i normally have problems with the selector spline, try slackening off the clutch cable(when was it last changed ie cable and oil?)

could be the clutch its just a trait of SR20 boxes though, a properly adjusted cable should remedy it to some extent though.

Well, I've had the car for less than a 1000miles, it has 140k on the clock. I am gonna assume the oil in the box has never deen done and at that mileadge I would recon its at least a second clutch...possibly on its way out or if it was changed, I suspect the pressure plate was kept in hence the judder when letting the thing out by about 40% . I adjusted the cable 3 weeks ago as it was as hard as anything to depress. Cable is fairly new so don't think there is any added resistance. I recon oil change and cable adjust, and will check mounts.....at a 140K HARD miles I can imagine they will be near fooooked!!... have grabbed hold of the engine before and you cannot pull it around inside the engine bay at all... will still check.

Cheers fella's

What did you expect when you purchased a 140k car?

Clutches are quite cheap to buy and easy enough to fit. Whole job would be £200 at a reasonable garage. Think about an uprated one if you continue to race VXRs.
