N15 si binding brakes

just got my car properly on the road (taxed) and now iv noticed that my brakes seem to be binding theyv cost me £52 in 3 weeks (2 sets of pads) and i need to fix them by the 28th the only thing i could find wrong is the thing the caliper bolts into (pad carrier?) one of the little piston things is seized how much is a new one (if anyone knows?) and where could i get one or is it fixable?

help appreciated :)

pull the "little piston thing" (slide pin) out of the carrier and clean it up with a file and some sandpaper. the whole length, dont get half arsed about it or you will be re-doing it in a few weeks

clean the rubber boot out of all the rust

pack the boot with copper grease.

make sure the whole slide pin is greased up.

replace the boot onto the slide pin.

push pin back into carrier and push down as far as it will go to get all the air out.

re-asseble caliper and hope for the best

Good write up ross, this usually cures the binding issue but very rarely you will get surface rust on the the piston which prevents the piston returning properly, very rare though, to solve that, take the caliper off with no pads in, very gently apply the brake a little at a time, this should push the piston out, but nly do it a little, pull the seal back and you should see some light rust if the slide pin regrease doesnt work that is.

Very rarely do you get rust on the piston though.

Reason i say only push the piston out a little way is because too much and the piston will pop out and dump brake fluid all over the floor, be careful :)

cheers people :D i couldnt do it myself so i took it to a guy i know n hes gonna do it for me n hopefullly it will work :D thanks
