N15 wings

seeing as its not pissing down today, i might go ahead and change the wings on my GTi for the newer ones i have.
what problems am i likely to come across? i presume the main one is bolts snapping.
does the front bumper need to come off and anyone got any diagrams?

yes bumper needs to come off!

problems would be the bottom 2 bolts on the sill they are bastards

rest is piss easy

1 in the inner arch at the top corner of the bumper (each arch)
1 behind the front indicators (push screws) - each side
3 under the grill - remove grill first
depending on your underside you may have these 2 still attached (9/10 they been snapped off)

thats your bumper removed
the you have 2 nuts were bumper was
4 along the inner bonnet/wing
2 on the sill
2 behind the indicator holding your headlight in place
then your arch lining!

done!

off top of my head and cant think of any thing else!

great info that!
well i didnt get round to doing it today, but i may try tomorrow. im just hoping that none of the bolts dont snap as i dont have a bolt extractor.

Well eventually today i got round to doing the wings. Wasnt as easy as it looks as half the bolts snapped and the bottom ones on the wings i had to angle grind off, drill out and make new bolts. Also while everything was off i grinded of all loose surface rust and old underseal, including inside the arches, front crossmember and anything else i can see. There was no heavy rust just surface and then it was slight. Then covered everything in Krust (rust inhibitor), stonechipped and then undersealed. Bloody messy but there is no rust in there now! The 2 wings i took off were rotten, look at the photos.

Car looks better, wings now are actually nissan red not rattle can red and are pristine. Before i put on the new wings i completly undersealed them inside to stop any rust coming back.

Tomorrow....im going to put on the sideskirts and maybe attack the rear arches, depending on weather
