n16 1.5 almera starter motor help

When starting my car is making a sort of grinding/whir noise when cranking and just after. Obviously its the starter but was just wondering how hard it is to get out and what tools I'll need?
Anyone happen to know what tools I'll need? Is it just a couple of bolts?

Also when I start the car I always have to give it gas to get it started, unless its warm it never just springs in to life (it doesnt need much, just a little bit of accelerator just to blip it when starting)...
Is this related to it sometimes hesitating when cold and pulling away the first time or two?

What could it be?

cheers

The starter motor is held to the gearbox bellhousing via 2 x 14mm long bolts, disconnect the battery first before disconnecting the starter motor terminals.

Cheers. I'm off to lake district this week and will be cutting it close if i can get a starter motor in time and fit it so will probably get one spare and take it with me with a couple of spanners just in case.
it's getting pretty bad!

Like you say, if the warning signs are there then yeah expect the worse, could go anytime!

Nice place the lake district...
