hi
i have a n16 1.5l, i have a k+n induction kit on it at the moment.
does anyone else have one and experience a lag in acceleration when engine is cold?
any ideas?
it just doesn't want to go anywhere when i put my foot down!

Dont put your foot down with a cold engine, you'll fcuk it! That laag is most probably because your choke is on, and your engine is wearing away quite quickly inside :)

If you're getting the lag its normal. At about 2500-3500rpm if i remember correctly from a RR readout thee is a complete drop in torque and BHP, mostly torque which is why you feel it hold back and then take off again.

Don't buy k+N for the price you can get a good enclosed filter which will give you better gains or you can get a HOTSHOT CAI from america aswell, again giving better gains.

Can't emphasise that enough when i say K+N is overpriced for what you get, much better kits out there for the same price, don't buy K+N just because it is k+n

thorght K&N was good. so what is better then K&N and where can i get another band induction kit from ?

an enclosed kit is better simply because it only get cool air from outside.

K+N has a pipe which blows air onto the kit, only onto a small portion mind, but it is also exposed to the warm engne bay air/temperatures.

A kit like BMC, most likely you'll need to get one of the universal ones. DO NOT GET BMC ITSELF - TRIED AND TESTED IT IS TOO LARGE. IF YOU WANT TO MOVE THA BATTER THEN YES YOU CAN GET IT TO FIT.

Hothot on the other hand is a CAI and has a different approach.

The filter is places under the car, behind the passenger fog lamp and air from outside hits the filter directly. This then travels up chrome piping which comes from the engine bay. This is probably the best system as the filter gets the most air, but also gets only cold air from outside

About the best explanation i can give

HOWEVER.....................

A new panel filer, K+N for example into your current air box and a custom pipe would be like an enclosed kit, i know a few people who have done that and don't give a toos how it looks. Looks wise its not as good as your fancy carbon enclosed kit but it works on the same principle

Again you can have a kit like hotshot welded for you - got to know the right people etc

HOPE THIS HELPS ALL 1.5/1.8 N16 ALMERA OWNERS

that's a BMC kit which like i said is too big to fit in the N16 as the battery comes in the way, unless you have a TD in which case it will fit.

You do get kits which are very similar to BMC, unversal ones. Search on google and you'll find em

i've heard K+N apollo are good

RAMAIR do a good universal enclosed kit

how good these are i don't know

honestly i wouldn't buy Ripspeed, rather spend extra and get a good quality kit thats going to last, proper carbon etc

Baz has got on think he got it from ICON CAR STYLING - somthing like that, thier link is in the AOC discounts available section

I have a carbon enclosed filter, similar to the RIPSPEED one. I got mine from REVS in Glenrothes. I think it was a RACE X one but they are all made by the same company ie it is the same as the one from Aprio one. The Icon address is http://www.iconstyling.com.

i got the ripspeed one from halfrauds had it on a few months now and i think its good tbh. paid 60 quid for it, it gives quiet a low grumble. you cant half hear it sucking air in mind specially through 1st n 2nd sounds brill. only thing ive bought from them that was half decent. and i sware my car is more responsive. tried it with the standar box on a while ago and the car was sluggish i thought!

Never really noticed this on my car and its got a K&N... Although i would imagine an enclosed induction kit or CAI that shakey's got WILL be better...

The K&N is good to start with as responsiveness is quite good... I've also noticed acceleratoin improvements...

In order to get the best combo - buy an enclosed induction kit BEFORE you get a custom zorst then you'll notice a "real" difference...

Shakey, a bit off topic, your hotshot header you got - i presume you've got no other cats on it have u?
