N16 1.8 P0302 code

Hi peeps,

All was well in almera world when suddenly driving back from work tonight car started to misfire. The engine light would flash for a while then go off. The process repeated itself many times. Plugged in my OBD2 Ultragauge and saw a pending trouble code of P0302. Meant Cylinder 2 misfiring.

I will be checking the coil and plugs tomorrow but can anyone shed any light on it? Plugs were replaced about 4000 miles ago and car had been running fine since. Oil servicing had been done about every 8000 miles and the last servicing was done at 4000 miles ago with the plugs. Car currently has 129k miles on it.

I hope its not the dreaded timing chain and just a coil or dud plug. Other cylinders seem fine and car starts fine without any problems.

could be that the coils need replacing, had similar situation with mine a couple of years ago and had coils replaced, runs like a dream now

Thanks for the replies guys. I swapped the coil from cyl 2 to cyl 1 and lo and behold the code changed to P0301. So it seems i have a faulty coil. I will be changing all four to prevent further problems. Just another question. Will the coils off a 2004 1.8 fit a 2000 1.8?

Gotta love simple fixes!

I am aware of one guy use ph2 coilpacks on his ph1, but he's using aftermarket engine management.

They should still work tho.
