N16 Almera Rough Idle Problems

Hi,

I wasn't able to post in the relevant section, so i'll post here and hope that a moderator can move this post.

Firstly, hi everyone. I'm a new member with a problem. My '03 Nissan Almera 2.2Dci is idling rough and wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem. Things that I may try:

Disconnecting Battery to reset ECU. How long?
Replace EGR
Replace MAF
Clean throttle body. Where is this?

The car has recently been serviced and I have already cleaned the EGR (This was covered in some kind of carbon soot:confused:). When I first disconnected the EGR and started the car, the idle problem disappeared but returned a few hours later. I'm not entirely sure where the problem lies, so wondered if anyone has solved this problem in the past? I may disconnect the battery to reset the ECU and allow the computer to relearn. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Holly

Have a good clean of the connectors that go into the MAF and the air temp sensor.

Maybe even have a check of your air filter? Might be bunged up.

Thanks Steve.

A recent service has not helped at all so air filter has been changed and the MAF already cleaned by myself.

I've also cleaned the EGR which was very dirty, but the valve underneath is not very easy to access. Is it recommended that this be cleaned also?

It's as if the idle setting is too low, but leaving the battery disconnected for a week did not seem to reset the ECU. Or at least it didn't seem like it. Any one else having the same problems as me?

Thanks

welcome along mate, sorry to hear you're having problems. i think what you should do is bring it down to your local nissan garage and have them run a diagnostics check on it. they should be able to find any fault codes for the car and give you a clear idea of the problem.

i went to nissan before nad they were able to locate the problem within minutes. it will cost you a few pounds though, so if you know someone who works for them, it will be cheaper.

also, if you want to reset the ecu, i think leaving the battery disconnected over night or for 24 hours should suffice.

are there any management lights on in the dash when you're driving?? engine/oil etc etc?
