N16 baby seat

So we are due our first child in just over 5 months so starting to look for baby stuff

One thing we need is a baby seat so nipped to mothercare are and found out out that the 'walk in the park' we were expecting with the family car aimed n16 almera is infant a royal pain in the ass for baby seats due to the way the rear bench is! We have found a couple 'on paper' which should fit as recommended by the manuf, but reports that some places have refused a sale after testing which showed the fit was less than perfect.

Anybody else run with new born baby seats and of so, what make and model!?
We will also need it to fit a k13 Micra (once k have picked myself of the floor at the cost!

I don't know how different the N16 is from the N15 I have, but I've had 3 different baby/child seats and they have all been fine. Try Britax seats.

MotherCare's own brand and Recaro's... you're just paying for a name, they aren't any better than the average brand. Britax and Maxi Cosi are popular although Graco and Bebe Confort are just as good.

Whatever you do, never buy a second-hand seat, you never know if it's been in a crash!

I often think the 'avoid secondhand child seat' thing is for sales rather than safety. I've taken ours apart many times to mop up sick and they are really basic in construction. I think the car would need to be in a really really heavy accident to actually damage it.

That's what I thought too but I'd feel too nervous about putting my kid in a seat which might have a hidden past. I suppose it wouldn't be so bad to get a 2nd hand one from a trustworthy friend/family but I wouldn't risk my kids' life just to save a few quid.

The first one we really liked and tested fitting into the N16 Almera was a Mothercare "own brand" - I think it was the Curv travel system we looked at, but the seat was not a perfect fit as less than half of the base made contact with the seat bench. Essentialy not all mothercare own brand are made by the same manuf.

N16 does and does not have ISOFIX - as far as I can tell its luck of the draw if you have them in the later/towards the end models! Ours however does not so it will have to be a belted seat to ensure it also fits into a K11 and K13 Micra.
We have found a couple from Maxi-Cosi that suggest they fit into the cars we require them to fit (N16 Almera / K11/K12/K13 Micra/P12 Primera...) so its just a matter of going to test fit them. I think the Pebble seat is the one that looks like it will fit better as it has a more rounded base.

Oh, and I agree I would never buy a second hand seat, not even from a friend. In the grand scheme of things they dont cost a huge amount and I would prefer be cautious.

Still not quite sure over the K13 Micra just yet - more about funding it at the moment as the wife will be going on maternity leave for 12 months as well as our mortgage fix rate offer coming to an end and I would like to leave the cash in the bank!

It's irrespective if the seat fully touches the base of the bench, it is held against the back rest with such force it won't go anywhere. You just need to make sure the lower part of the seat belt buckle doesn't touch the child seat (ie plastic to plastic). The belted ones are fine but you have to tighten them up every few weeks, and they squash marks into the belt and the car seats. You know what the isofix fixings look like, to check if you have them?

The Almera does not have ISOFIX

It is a requirment that 3/4 of the base of the child seat touches to rear bench otherwise its considered ill fitting and not safe! This is confirmed after speaking to several different shops and they would refuse to sell me the seat if the base was not correctly touching the bench the required amount!

I think we have found one - Maxi-Cosi pebble, it reports that it fits on the website so just need to get it test fitted.

I bought a K13 yesterday but during the test drive we found that the seat belt was faaar to short for a belted seat and gave us an issue with buckle crunch, so looks like we will have to buy the ISOFIX bash (test fitted and confirmed fine).

Geez this is becoming expensive lol
