n16 driving issues? wont go above 3000rpm

had my car in last week to fix a squeaky belt (which i thought was the water pump bearing) garage told me nothing wrong with any bearings or pulleys and put the belt back on (no work required belt was fine) subsequently the squealing has stopped.

used the car everyday since, and this morning noticed on the motorway the car would struggle to hit 70mph in 5th, the revs wont go above 3krpm (unless in neutral) there are no warning signs on the dash, the engine temp is fine, driving the car is fine (turning, electrics etc)

the problems occurs in all gears, even when doing 40mph in 4th then drop down to 3rd the revs will drop and stick at 3krpm, had the bonnet up, nothing looks out the ordinary

any suggestions?

could be MAF related, i'm hesitant to say chain due to no engine light which is good news.

really baffled by this, im hoping the AA (when they get here) can shed some light on it,

at 105,000 miles i was dredding the timing chain, but again no lights no nothing, i thought my brakes could be binding but when i dropped in on the garage i had my belt done, they said it wouldnt be brakes, and it would pull really hard

Check the connection to the EGR valve. I discovered that with the EGR unplugged the car went into limp mode (3k rev limit) and no engine light came on.
