Hello

Reference this thread.

Quite a concern to a new owner who had been told these cars were the most solidly built reliable cars on the planet

Mine shows no signs of this problem but if possible I want to prevent it.
So I would like to see what others have done.

If the filler is too low, is it possible to overfill the gearbox with oil to help prevent the problem.
What about an oil additive like Slick 50 gear additive?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I can't see why over-filling wouldn't compensate.

Just remember you did that when changing the oil! :D

Thanks, so we have the makings of a plan then?
Ok, is it easy to get at, anyone have a photo?

Cheers

Mike

moat times when i fill a box with oil fill it till it overflows anyway. lol. unless of course it has a seperate dipstick for trans oil

Well I am not sure at this stage, hope to have a look today.
From the descriptions on the other thread it sounds like its a simple bolt hole that is apparently an inch too low, thus we need something that can inject the oil/ additive then pop the bolt back quick to keep it over filled?

If nobody else does I try and get a photo today

Ok this is not good reading for someone who has JUST bought an Almera...

Don`t worry mate,

Yours is a Phase 2, the problem is with the early Phase 1s.

is it the 2.2 136bhp one, theyre pretty quick.

DO NOT Over fill your gearbox, this was put down as one of the problems of the cause. And remember the bung on the front middle of the gearbox is the filling bung not the level bung. The Level is taken from the speedo drive hole, or speedo blanking plate hole.

Have you got a link to that?

Also is mine phase 1 or 2?

I am a new owner as well

Yeah thats the one, had it a week or so and yes it IS quick... Suprised me how well it goes and I drive a 200sx

A lot people fill the boxes so the oil comes out of the hole on the front of the box. This is wrong, as to much oil can increase the pressure within the box. The same thing can happen if you put to much oil in your engine.
On a few gearboxs that were inspected they were found to have to much oil in them. So it isn't a design fault.
