N16 Low mpg

Hi guys, I drive a 1.5SE 2005. Usually my car displays 41mpg on the dash. But recently it has dropped right down to 32! Tyre pressures are correct, spark plugs new, air filter new, MAF sensor cleaned, use Shell fuel, used fuel system cleaners. I've noticed that whilst driving, and putting the clutch pedal down, the rev's at 1500rpm, Instead of around the 800rpm mark. If I was to take it out of gear, then it would idle normal. Anyone have any idea what's causing this? TB sticking open?

The cold weather will have a big effect on a petrol engines efficiency. Diesels get effected to a lesser extent because thery're more thermally efficient.

This happened before the cold weather, and it was fine for last 3 winters in my ownership. Why is the revs staying on 1500rpm when it should be on 800rpm? Strange.

Diesel n16s are the way forward.

That was on a motorway run 60-65 mph nice and steady. Down to 51 now town driving all day :(

Mines a 112bhp 5speed, hks panel filter and decat-d with a hammer and a stick.

I wanna try the decat with a hammer method, but aren't the rules for MOT tightening up soon?

They already have, but don't apply for cars before 2006 I heard. But even then, they'd have to physically remove the CAT to see if it's been hollowed out. No quick easy task that on our cars.

Nice. Will have a look when it warms up!

Yeah mines one of the old Di's needs an intercooler then I'm going to look in to a larger turbo. Best I've managed is 55mpg

All mine gets is a smoke test too. So far, not had an issue at MOT time, and it's going in tomorrow so hopefully still ok. Cold temps prob help.
