Hi folks.
The rear offside disc brake on my 2.2Di was binding & runing hot so I got the caliper replaced as it was sticking. Now one week later the other side is overheating even worse than the othe did, even though it checked out fine before! B***er!
I'm reluctant to pay another £135 for a recon caliper (inc. fitting) only to find the problem may be caused by something else.
Any ideas what might be the problem before I raid the piggy bank. AGAIN!

Cheers. BB

Think its a common problem on the N16`s. You could check and see if the guide pins just need freeing/greasing rather than a complete new caliper, but to be honest i think you will need to raid the piggy bank!

My front brakes were running super hot when I got the car. I just took them apart, wire brushed the pads, dunted the disks to free the edge rust, greased everything up and slapped them back on.

I decided to do the back as well and was pretty shocked at the nick they were in. Completely minging and not greased at all. Followed above and everything has been hunky dory since.

Update:
Just got the cleaning, freeing, lubricating done by a good bloke who does all our family's maintenance.
Result = Initially all seemed well but after a 10 mile run at 60+ it got hot again. Really hot.
Bah! He reckons that only a new caliper will cure it.
The strange thing, is though, that everything seems free when the car is at rest as it can be pushed back & forth with ease even when the disc is still stinking hot. Weird.
Ah well, where's that bl***ing piggy bank!

That's for the help guys. I'll keep you posted about how the caliper change turns out.

Got another caliper fitted today. So far so good. Damn expensive though its cost £300, parts labour & VAT, so it had better be sorted! :(

U wont want to hear this now but ive got one. u could have had it.

Look on the bright side tho - new brakes, look after the tho, the callipers are crap, keep the pins moving freely, and the pad slides clean.
