Just wondering if anyone has had to change a thrust bearing on a N16 almera? mine has just been in the garage and have been told the bearing is fucked but they want £200 to fix the problem? does that sound a bit too expencive?

Parts about £40, but the g/box has to come off.........

Noise when you press the clutch pedal down?

nah the noise stops when i push the clutch down, its like a grinding noise

Are you talking about the release bearing in the gearbox or you mean the thrust bearing which which takes up lateral movement of the crankshaft?

Well if the noise stops when you press in the clutch it`s not the release bearing. Yep its gunna be pricey.

im not sure have just been told by a garage that it is prob the thrust bearing, but it has stopped it from goin in 1st gear and when im in reverse it jumps.

everything always happens when you think about sellin the car, put my old mera up 4 sale then week later wrote the thing off lol

Well it's either replacing the shaft bearing and paying about (roughly as i don't know labour rates for down south) £200-£250 for to get that done OR go sourcing a new gearbox...

Just out of interest what year or Phase is your N16?
