nats immob question

how do you know if this is working, i.e. if i put a copied key into the ignition and turned it what would happen???

would it try to start but not fireup like my old punto did or would no dash lights come on???

also how much is it to have a key copied as i only have 1 key and if it breaks or stops working im stuck.

reason i ask is that it could be my immagination that when i went to start the car none of the dash lgihts came on so took keyout and put it back in and it works............. wierd i know could just be my immaignation... i've sa tin the car good 3-4 minutes turning on n off and everything works fine.

also how can i bypass the immob as i have a cat 1 alarm n immob fitted n e how?

unsure on the copied key but on getting no response when turning the key, i had this and it was caused by my started motor sticking open, i and the AA guy originally was thinking it was the immobilizer as got nothing when turning the key.

If it does it again you can usually put the car in gear and rock the car back and too and the soleniod should return to correct position (or a wack with a long screwdriver)

It would start then stall after a few secs, just leave the old key on the ring and immobiliser chip will be read.

oh right so at leaste i know its not the immob.

like i said it seemed to just be once it did it where taking out the key reinserting it did the trick so dunno..... always starts fine as well, no other problems i know of other than a metalic noise when the cars been parked a while....... but nothing else.

ill keep an eye on it.

if they dont come on what ill do is move the car forward n backward....... see if that makes them come on but like i said it could just be my imagination.

If you had a key problem the engine will start for 5 secs then cut and the engine check light will be flashing.

Sounds like you may have a provlem with the ignition switch on the barrel like Rowdy has all ready said.

Engine not starting problem

I seem to be having a similar problem to this. Sometimes my car refuses to start. The engine doesn't even try to turn over. I get no flashing engine light like when there is an immobiliser problem - all the dash icons light up like normal. I have noticed that it has started doing this since the weather started getting a bit cold. I have told a mechanic friend about it and he says it's the immobiliser, but I think he's wrong. I have a copy of my key (no immobiliser) just for opening the doors and boot. Using this to start the engine produces the results as rowdy-GTi described. When my engine plays up, using the copy key produces the same result of the engine not even trying to turn over. Does this sound like the starting motor sticking open? How much would something like this cost to fix and would I need to take the car to an official Nissan dealer?

Thanks.

Try rolling the car forward or backward by hand a few feet if it doesn`t start, this`ll free the starter motor if its sticking. Has the starter ever been noisy?

It's starting normally at the moment but it just seems to randomly do it. What do you mean by starter motor making noise? As far as I know it's normal. When I first got the car about 6 months ago, for a while it made a weird loud humming sound for about 5-10 secs in the ON position on the key before actually starting the car. Do you think this is related?

Thanks.

Thats just the fuel pump priming, which is normal.

Sometimes the starter can make a screeching noise.

I have never had that problem with the starter motor. What could be done to rectify the intermittent starting problem? Do you think I need to change the starter motor or is there a cheaper alternative?

Thanks.
