Hi

I think my head gasket has gone, its been loosing a lot of water and a milky residue by the oil filler cap.

Its a 1996 P reg, is it worth doing?

Would I get more for the car if I broke it and sold it separately? Would it cost much to get fixed?

Also my tax is due the end of this month.

What would you do?

depends on the condition of the car really, any rust? what mileage?

All head gaskets are costly to fix due to the labour involved, but I wouldn't have thought it would be a particularly hard job on an SR20 as the access is good.
 
With tax being £112 for six months, and the car being an early model i'd say £200 max. You'll have to get some pictures up. Basically it's going to cost a mechanically minded person around £300 to get this car on the road again including the tax as it'll want a new chain and tensioner, gasket, seals etc. If you're taking the head off you'd be silly not to rebuild as much as you can that's all.
