Need your Help

Hi everybody,

i am looking to buy an almera GTi, i need some SR20 in my life,

i found this one,

the milage is genuine,

my only concern is the rust in the arches, i can get this done at a price, but as i havent been able to view the car yet i am hesitant abotu travelling 200miles in the micra on a fools errand...

i was hoping with your experience you guys could offer your opinion,

does it look like it might be worth a punt?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi and welcome,

you could have a search through the for sale threads on the site, a lot of GTi's go up for sale here and they'd be well maintained by the members.

Rust on the arches is a common enough problem, may be a member on here that lives near by it can take a look for you before you decide on going to look at it yourself.

Hello tom! Welcome!

A few people have noticed that, and it does look like the mileage is genuine as you say.

The problem with arch rust is it doesnt tell the whole condition of the car, I've had meras with clean arches and rotten undersides, and rusty arches with near-spotless chassis.
Main points are - inner arches, around the suspension turrets, chassis rails underneath, front crossmember, rear seatbelt mounts.

hey guys,

thanks for the quick replies,

i had a brief look through the F/S but i couldnt find any that caught my eye, i rang the guy earlier today, he was useless, he just said it was fine apart from the arches.... yeah because thats akways the case :( i am going to have a look at it next thursday after uni i think..

so apart from the usual checks, is there anything else i really need to do? ie the seat belt mounts, under boot carpet..

unfortunately i have decided i am after a black ph2 gti, nothing else will do i'm afraid lol call me picky :)

Welcome mate..
General rust checks to be honest ;)
As corbs pointed out above, rust is the main problem with our cars.. The engine/tranny etc are BULLETPROOF like La Roux lad...
Joe

Just the usual wear and tear signs to see if the mileage is as genuine as it seems, previous owners or MOT certificates etc

I really would'nt worry about mechanicals at that mileage though!

Yeah but in standard form, they are very tough..
Considering I've done 5 drag days, a track day and a hell of a lot of private road bashing all this year, I wouldn't be disappointed that I've broke only one tranny actually Craig :)
This guy's looking to buy one lol don't put him off!
/hijack lol

welcome over tom lad!

just as said on MSc fella!

check for rust and just give the engine its normal checks!

give it a test drive and give it a whack left and right check the bearings and suspension etc

if you ask nicely and put the directions there is a fw people on here near leicester who might be able to pop and see it for you

Hey, thought i recognised the name :)

spotted Kristian too,

i think i will go up on friday and give it a chuck about, if it doesnt feel right then i wont go for it, even if it is dirt cheap,

i rang him again today and he said that it is all ok apart from the arches, i guess he wouldnt lie as its only his sale to lose at the end of the day,

thanks guys (Y)
