New here and to Jap Cars

Hi all, picking up a 98 S 1.6 SRi at the weekend from brighton hopefully. Never driven jap before but have had serveral frenchies (306, 406 coupe, xantia, 5x 205's) plus VW golfs and more. Hoping it will be a nice change as well :)

Anything i should look out for when i test drive it? Common Faults?

Thanks

H

Rust in the sills and rear arches, around the rear suspension strut mounts in the boot, make sure the oil is clean and also that the coolant has been changed every 2 years. Make sure there isn't any serious rattling noises from the engine as it has a cam chains not a belt. Other than that make sure it's clean

Oh, and welcome to the club :)

Hello and welcome to the AOC! How quick are those SRi's?? BHP??

Smaz.

*edit*

A quick look on Parkers and i see they're rocking 98bhp, 0-60 in just over 10 seconds. Will this be on par with what you've driven or is it faster\slower?

thanks for the pointers guys and happy new year to you all. It will be a lot slower than most things i've driven, the fastest being the v6 406 coupe. But i'm just in the midst of moving into a new flat so need something more reliable and lower insurance. Even the 205 gti's are something stupid like group 12!!

How about lowering your insurance further by signing up as a full member. Being a club member gives you discount at Adrian Flux insurance or skyinsurance plus access to the rest of the forum?!

Directline has beaten all quotes i've recieved so far and their customer service is top notch when i've had to call in so for the remainder of the year i'll stick with them. happy to become a member once i get the car :)

i have no idea what these engines are made out of so no idea what potential is in them, i've seen this nismo bounded about quite a bit, what's that all about?

I'd certainly like to do the simple bits first, improve induction, possible manifold and exhaust, wheels, drop it and see where its at....
