New member - looking to purchase in the morning.

Hi all,

My name's Jordan,

I joined a few days back and been browsing until tonight where I thought i'd introduce myself.

I am a fairly new driver, used to have a 106 1.1 but sold it to buy something a bit bigger - Hopefully a 1.4 Almera tomorrow morning!

It's an 'S' plate N15 Ph2 if I have got it right?

It's a 1.4 with 87k on the clock, tax til the end of this month and MOT til October

A friend of a friend is selling it, and cheap too at £275ono due to, I quote, "It's got a hole in the exhaust towards the front, and a small oil leak"

Now where should I be looking for this leak? Obviously if it's leaking from the sump or rocker cover it's ok, only needs re-sealing.

But as I used to be a French car owner, I am well clued up on head gaskets! - Are they a common problem on Almeras?

Are there any problems I should be looking out for? I drove past it the other day and it looks really clean, the only visual defect looked to be a slightly rusty OSR arch.

Sorry for the essay, I eagerly await a reply!

Cheers, Jordan

that aint an essay mate, dont worry!

oil leak i would shoot at crank oil seal, head gaskets are pretty un common, but depends on how its been looked after the mera engines are pretty robust both GA and SR alike!

if it aint the crank oil seal then i would say the sump gasket!

just give it a good check over for the usual mayo in the oil etc!

:) good luck on purchase

have a quick search mate - it would have been picked up loads of times!

depends if it pissing oil out or not!

and what the rest of the car is like - without seeing it i couldnt say .

end of the day engine can be sorted dead easy - im sure you can tell when u go to look at it whether u wanna spend your money or not!

just give it a good looking over

Hi Jordan,
If you want any help in person, let me know:)
My Gti is a good example of rustage, and should give you an idea of exactly where to look!

Hi mate,

Thanks for the offer!

Where abouts in Norfolk are you? I'm near Swaffham.

I know the lad who owns it at the moment had it as his second car and did used to thrash it slightly as most young lads do. But from what I can remember - it sounds smooth and drives well. This was 6 months ago though the last time I went in it.

I shall pop over tomorrow morning and have a little drive in it and see if I can see the cause of the oil leak. Hopefully nothing major as I really like it, being white too,

Cheers

I`m in Norwich chap, although I`ll be out your way on a kind of scrapyard tour, whilst keeping my fingers crossed for sunshine and nice B-roads:)
I`m quite happy to show you some points to watch out for if you like.

Hi all

Sorry I didnt reply last night, I was so tired - had to hit the hay!

Anyways, I went and looked at it today. It's got a fair bit of rust but has had the sills welded under the rear doors so i'm hoping it will be ok. I'll sort the OSR arch out asap.

I got it for £200 and am collecting it tomorrow hopefully, it's got MOT til November 15th and tax til end of April

I'm quite pleased with it to be honest, It's very basic (No electric windows or even central locking!) but it's got the power steering I was after (One of main reasons for selling my old 106)

Here's a couple of photos I took today -

Cheers guys much appreciated :)

Any ideas on some cheap/free little mods to do to it? Any common things to do or to check for?

I want some alloys for it, what alloys should I look for? I know with pugs you can put either pug/citroen/ford wheels, what do Nissans take?

Cheers!
