new owner needs help!!!

hello everboby. i've just got a 1998 almeria gti almera after reading reviews on the net. i'm very impressed with the engine and handling, but i have a few problems that where not there on test drive. i drove it 130 mile's after buying it. half way home when pulling up to a junction i notice that the rev where around 3000rpm, do these have idle control valves or is there someing else that could there could be? second problem is near my house the clutch started to slip. i heard there could be a problem with the cable. there is a noise come from it when pressed? i look forward to solving the problems so i can have a real go and see if it'd true what the reviews say!!!!!

Revs sounds normal. Could try adjusting the cable, and the noise ( rattling ? ) could be clutch release bearing.

thank for your reply. the rev sit at 3000rpm and don't drop to a normal tick over and the cluch noise is a loud creek when the pedal is depressed.

It sounds like it will almost certainly be an idle air control valve issue sounds similar to something we experienced rarely, also the clutch cable is most likely to be buggered ours actually ended up snapping clean in half but the replacement part was cheap!

thats helpful ^^^

is the throttle cable free? could it be sticking within the cable liner?

If the sound from the pedal is more like a squeek, its normal, bit of grease on the pedal spring sorts it i believe

thank for the help.the tick over is a cheap and easy 1 to sort. there's a little rubber thing at the engine end of the cable, it's got stuck under the under the cable on the throttle body. nice and easy fix!! the noise from the clutch is a loud groaning/creaking from the gearbox. off to buy a new clutch cable, i'll let you guy's know how i get on

p.s anyone one recommend a good make disc and pad set for the front? don't want to spend a fortune but don't want a set that will warp the first time i give them a bit of stick!!!

Are you sure the creaking is coming from the gearbox mate? As there's a common problem on here where the actual hinge of the clutch pedal needs lubricating, and begins to creak/squeak.

If it is coming from the gearbox, does it only do it when the car's running? And is it only when the pedal is pressed that you get the noise?
If so, as before mentioned, the release bearing may be worn.. Its a complete gearbox removal to rectify that too.

i hopefully got it sorted. the pedal box was loose and the cable is shot.getting new cable monday. just hope i haven't damaged the clutch to much. thank's for your help

the clutch cable can be adjusted manualy unlike some other manufactorers

the pedal feel's funny some how. i got a feeling cables stretching and ready to snap. did i read somewhere there's going to be a track day somewhere?
