New turbo

Hi everyone, just spent a small fortune on a new (recon) turbo, so as i quite like me little diesel i thought id make myself a member. It wasnt really knackered just made a louder than normal whistle. Had a bit more play in the bearing than it should have. Pulls like a good un now.

I see. Not too bad really, although you can get a hybdrid turbo for 550 from turbo technics. Which are much stronger and give the opportunity to run more power if you want.

That aside, any plans? Theres a few people tuning the diesels now so theres some interesting stuff on here. Have a look around.

I never thought about getting a hybrid, although i've considered getting it chipped by gt performance in stoke but im not too sure if it affects reliabilty etc. Ive seen a few diesels about that have been done, my friend did his 530d beemer and loves it.

RS Tuning in Leeds is the place to go for these as they have a specific ECU that needs the right kit. Reliablity isnt an issue if youre sensible. Id say you could comfortably run 170hp on a hybrid and a remap.

It will improve MPG providing you dont use the extra power all the time :) im not sure on what the torque figure would be, but id imagine it would be 250+ lbft.

Welcome mate.

Second all that liam said.

If you do get it mapped on a standard turbo though don't run more than 1.35 bar. Shame you dudnt go for the hybrid as it will give you the reliability. I've been running mine for nearly two years now with no problems so aside from the standard turbo weakness they're quite reliable. Solid even.

Welcome aboard,

Nice to see another dci owner real shame you didn't get the hybrid tho :( you could have been a lucky 1 like me & checked the forum first as 1 guy who had a bump has decided to break his dci which included a turbo technics hybrid turbo for the price you paid for a standard unit. Have a look through the for sale threads, & you could pick up a few mods & save yourself a lot of pennies!!

Well Done Liam, impressed with your diesel knowledge!! Saved Ed a fair few replies.

Thanx for all the feedback, im a bit miffed i didnt check first about the hybrid. Oh well ill just have to be sensible with the tuning. I got the 2.2 dci purely because i thought it would be a bit of fun! Its been a good car upto now, had it last nov and done 17000 miles since with numerous oil and filter changes. Its good to see a few other dci owners also. I was expecting all gtis!!

Yeah there's a few of us DCi owners here. I've got a special interest in it and have been keen on pushing what's done with the N16 and YD22 engine for a good few years now :) You should be in good hands here on the forum. We've got a number of threads that should help keep you motor running sweet and also help you with regards to modifications for almost all aspect of the car. Head over to the N16 Forums Resources thread for links to the relevant threads, but bear in mind some threads are in the paid for technical sections only.

Membership is about £16 a year but I've found I make that money back easily all the time because of the useful info and group buys / discounts I've had through the club :)

True!! Enough priceless info on here, & much £100s to be saved!

Welcome along mate. You are certainly in the right place if you're looking for diesel tuning advice. Just look at edk's sig. The only thing he hasn't done yet is stroke it to 2.5 with the Navara crank (wimp  ). Have a read of his build thread.
