hi i have recently sold my mr2 turbo as i have a son and it wasn't practical

so i still want something with a bit of power and handling so i thought the almera gti looked a good option

just wanted to know does anyone think this is worth a purchase

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-NISSAN-A...645090046QQcategoryZ18238QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

i have spoke to the guy he said the aircon needs a regas and apart from that there is nothing wrong with

how much do you guys think its worth maxium also do these cars make alright family cars

The Almera is not too bad as a family car. Front doors on the 3 door models are larger than the 5 door so if you need to put small children in their seats in the back then could become a pain if you park in small parking bays.

As for value then for that age one then perhaps about £1500-£2000 maximum.

my family have got a 3 door almera and a 4 door primera and to be honest theres not that much difference in practicality although if it was to be an only family car i would prefer a 4/5 door for the rear doors so getting people in and out is easier. you thought about a primera? very suprising cars in terms of handling and power and if you need access to the rear seats for something like a baby seat then it might be a better option than an almera. the p10eGT is the best but the p11GT isnt bad and you can pick up cheaper examples for about £1000, same engine as an almera GTI but with more interior space and rear doors which may be of use to you. you have probably already considered it but they get overlooked a lot so i thought it would be worth mentioning

thanks for the advice

i am going to have a look at the car tonight it will be the first almera i have ever looked at any important things to check out for

also if you look at the car in the pics im a bit worried as the front bumper looks a bit different to other almera gti ones

i asked the owner on the phone and he said he isn't sure as its how he bought the car 2 years ago he did say he not sure if something is missing as he has seen almera with his bumper and almera with other bumpers

The Bumper is missing the lower lip or splitter, both are pretty difficult to come by these days I am afraid.

oh i did think something was missing i think i will still look as i have already knocked him down to £1300 do you think this is an ok price if the car seems good

Given that its got brand new tyres and seems to have been looked after the price is OK, but if you can possibly view it then do so, some people's idea of mint or excellent condition is way off the mark.

I've definately read that advert before somewhere- perhaps the car was advertised previously on e-bay and this is a relisting? I'm sure it was for a different GTi based in Cromer though, although I could be wrong!!

well i bought the car in the end

everything seems as it should be his dad was a mechanic and the car seems to be fine

only problem with it is a wheel bearing which hardly makes any noise but they gave me a brand new bearing but they didn't have time to fit

just wondering how many miles i should roughly see to £30 of petrol

it has a scorpion exhaust and piper cross induction kit would putting the standard airfilter back on give me many more mpg

There have been a number of posts previously about miles per tanks and things. From a full tank til when the warning lamp comes on you can normally get on average about 250 miles but this depends on driving style (hard accelerating, etc) and type of driving (motorway you get more than town, etc). You will have used about 40-45 litres when the light comes on so you can work out how much petrol that is from your local garage prices (will be about the £40 mark).

Congrats on your purchase Mark. Just be careful that the scorpion exhaust is not fouling agaisnt the rear brake lines. This is a common issue with the Scorpions becuase the centre pipe is a bit too long. If you do a search there's quite a few posts covering it.

Swapping to the original filter may improve economy slightly, but in my case the PiperX actually improved fuel economy.

Welcome, I am newish here myself, it wont be as quick as your MR2 but for this kind of money you will struggle to find anything that is as quick and as reliable.

The Almera is my daliy driver, I have been looking at MR2s and 200sx for a weekend toy. How reliable was your MR2?

i do like the almera as its got a little bit of power but i am trying to change my career this year and improve my money situation and if succeed i will buy another mr2 turbo

the mr2 is the by far the best car i have owned so much fun if your thinking about getting one make sure you find a looked after example as there are alot of dogs out there

if you want more info on the mr2 go on www.imoc.co.uk they are very helpfull guys just like this forum seems to be

or if you ever thought about a nissan pulsar gti-r my mate has a mint one forsale
