Newbie buying a GTI

Evening ladies and gents. Im a newbie going to view and hopefully buy a 99 GTi tommorow. Any tips on what i should be looking for?

Have been heavily involved in the Rover coupe owners club for a number of years but due to weddings and practicality i have to get rid of my coupe turbo and get something more Mrs friendly as she doesnt like 210 bhp under her right foot :evil:
 
Right ive picked it up.

Ive bought a 1999 T plate Mera GTi with 62k (63 on the way home), standard but mint condition for £2k ;) Its got FSH, full mot. Im very happy :D

So few things im looking at doing-
Did any of the meras come with leather (swop over)?
whats the best thing to do with the side repeaters? Do i need to buy same ones but clear of will some flea bay specials do/fit?

Is there any common problems with them (head gaskets, gear boxes ect ect ect)?

Oh and its on standard 15's. What size tyres are people running. Its got 195/55/15's on but im not sure if this is right?

Main difference between GTi and SRi is engine. Not sure of speaker sizes but try a search at the top of the page and you can find that out easily. Leather was not on the Almeras but some people have had theirs retrimmed. Side repeaters (on front wing) can be brought from a number of retails or off aution sites and are a straight swap (just make sure you change your bulbs or they will flash white). As with your other queries nothing major goes wrong with the engine and gearbox if they have been looked after.

sounds good for 2k mate im awaiting pics.
the almera did have a special edition which came with half leather half suede see Al p's car and my almera has full leather but pretty sure its a re trim not standard.
just do a search on google for almera side repeators aslong as the year is right they sould fit.
the tyre size 55 is correct though you can get 50's a lot cheaper.
use the search bar for common problems.

SRi's rock, and GTi's.... well they rock faster (But with less doors :P)
