Newbie from Durham with N15

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Maimun and I drive an R reg N15 Almera 1.4 Equation which is currently on 73k miles. It's my first car and has a few mods. Many of you may be all too familiar with rust problems when it comes to these cars and mine was no exception. The worst for my car was the inner wheel arches but thankfully I got it sorted cheap enough. Aside from corrosion issues, the mera has made for an awesome daily driver that is somewhat economical and amazingly practical. I'll try and get some pics up soon.

Hey dude, cheers for the welcome. How are you finding your Mera? Got any mods on it?

No probs. I'm pretty new around here too :D

She's been practically bulletproof for three years, even passing an MOT after being smacked in the nose by a Ford Transit two days previously... but now i'm having to replace a few bits (and considering a respray/bodywork maintenance)... she's one of the rarer, wheezy Diesel Phase 1's, apparently there's less than 40 of them on UK roads now!

No mods at present, as mine seems like an endangered species I plan on stock-style restoration over time, but if in the near future I find myself living somewhere with a bit of space i'm considering getting another N15 (petrol this time) to use as a daily while I sort this one out. :)

Any grand plans for yours?

Awesome, looks like you've been very lucky getting hold of the 2.0D model. I wonder what they're like to drive.

I'm just using mine as a daily hack so I don't plan on spending too much on it. Saying that If I do see anything for sale going cheap then I'm always interested. So far it's just got 15" Wolfrace alloys, Alpine tape head unit with 6 cd changer, upgraded front & rear speakers and a 12" subwoofer. Bumpers will be getting colour coded properly soon. Overall the main plan is keeping it until I can afford something quicker. :D

Slow :D

Plus the signature blue puff of smoke from the exhaust on start-up, which sometimes gives me odd looks from passers-by. Great car though, really good on fuel, as you'd expect... just a shame about the tax!

Picking up an N15 with the CD20 engine was coincidence, I wasn't looking for it - I just bought a cheap car with full service history and a year's MOT... though AOC members have informed me that these Phase 1 N15 diesels aren't that common anymore! It's kinda nice that I have a car that's considered rare, though the prospect of parts and repairs is always a bit of a worry...

Nice - decent alloys make a heck of a difference. Yours is a N15 Equation, right? Does that mean it has the grey plastic bumpers or are they faded / from another car and need to be matched to the body? Just wondering how much that kind of job might cost as i'm planning on replacing bumpers sometime too.

Apologies for the very very late reply Rez. I've only just seen your post. Mine did originally come with the grey bumpers but when I bought my car you could tell someone had attempted to colour code it, and what a poor job that was. I did get it resprayed but I was lucky, because the guy who did the job was a family friend who offered to sort it for nothing if I supplied the paints and did the prep work. So about £70 from what I remember. If I didn't go that route I would have hunted around for second hand bumpers off a car with the same colour. You'll probably find it's a lot cheaper doing it that way.
