Newbie from SW London

Hi
just bought a 97 Gti off ebay absolutely fantastic! My wife bought it for me for my birthday this weekend.
eBayISAPI.dll

I have been reading through the forum ( as much as I can access ) and I am obviously very impressed and will have to stump up for the membership.
My car came with 17" BWA alloys and janspeed ss rear box which according to my insurance company are going to have to go. Unfortunately on a non existent budget so hoping this will fund replacement discs ( one back one very poor and yet mot in July).
So today just had a look at the air filter uuuurgh, I suppose I should have guessed from the colour of the engine oil. So I have just ordered up filters and plugs.
I am thinking of using an engine flush and also some injector cleaning stuff, and filling up with Halfauds semi synthetic. Good idea? Any brands reccomended?

My previous cars include 2 Mini Cooper S, Lincoln Continental, MGB and at home DB4, Jensen and after a year with a year with an 87 1.3 Sunny I can say they were all rubbish, unreliable just a nightmare honestly.

Any way thanx a lot for the Forum really superb job!

Hi and welcome to the club :).

Run the car on Shell VPower, dont worry about any other addatives :thumb:. Check out Opie Oils for oil and stuff. They often have some good deals on and if you become a paid member here you'll get club discount on top ;). You'd get some quality fully synth oil then for a great price.

We try and have a number of south meets so keep an eye out of them as you're in the catchment and probably not too far from me :).

Enjoy the forums.

Welcome to AOC!

Get a new insurance company. Most won't touch modified cars but try Chris Knott or Adrian Flux. Both do fair prices for modified cars and give AOC club members a discount.

Welcome! Your wife had an excellent choice of birthday present.

The membership fee is well worth it, you should find everything you need to know, if not, there are plenty of people to help!

Enjoy!

Hey Farang,

Welcome to the club.

You could also try Sky Insurance, they seem failry competetive (for me at least) and claim to offer an AOC discount.

For cleaning your injectors, you could try these guys but it will mean taking them off and sending them away (or maybe even buy a spare set to get cleaned).

A few people on here have tried them and seemed pleased with the results.
I have had mine cleaned but havent refitted them so cant comment on any improved performance, however they did refit the wrong pintle caps but it only took 20 mins to swap them for the right ones.

Get some pics up too, so we can appreciate your wife's good taste in cars.
