i've been lookin here for quite a while now and thought it'd be about right to get postin now and get to know people seen as everyone seems realy decent :D

I'm matthew (matt, matty) watever you wanna call me :P
I'm 17 at colege just started drivin on the road pretty much

live in the sleepy little village of carlton in north yorkshire. is near selby or goole (whichever one youve heard of) if you havent heard of them i'm near doncaster :P

i pretty much nagged the hell out of my dad for about 3 months solid upuntill my test 'lets go look at some cars' constantly. scoured the auto trader daily lookin at clio's, saxo's, corsa's yano the usual cars new drivers get and then my dad being an ex mechanic suggested an almera and at first i wasn't too sure about the idea but the more i thought about the more it seemed like a good idea so i went for it. I really couldnt get a gti at 17 as a new driver as much as i'd love to its jus not gonna happen but in the end i ended up with 1.6 slx 5 door (yes 5 door -.-) but tbh the longer its been stood there on the drive and the more i've looked at it the more i kinda like it. it's a 99 on a V with 111k on clock and yes its white :P it only cost 600 so all in all not too bad. It's a bit rough in places like the rear arches need de rusting and the previous owner left it to stand for a while so it was absolutly mank in places so it just needed a propper good clean and polish.

i havent got pictures before but this it what it looks like after about 4 hours of solid t cutting cause it was so filthy wen i got it :P.

i havent started to do owt to it yet as i aint got much cash left after doing lessons and test and stuff not to mention insurance lol so once i've got some cash i'd like to do a few things but i dont wanna go stupid just make it right :).

plans so far;
sort out rust
colourcode bits and bobs ( not a priority but we'll see)
new exsaust
alloys
remap ecu
lowered


Basicly i just want a nice car that'll last me a few years to just chillout and drive but at the same time be able to slaughter little boy racers in there corsa's at the traffic lights :P

Hello matey and welcome. Looks clean in the pictures. I think some Gti alloys and a bit of slammage
should be your first step. Then sort out the breathing! :D
 
hmm gti alloys sound like a plan then definatly slamage :P and ave had a look at breathin but look is all i can do till moneys come in :(
 
Looking good dude, my 1st car was a 1.4 Mera, you cant go wrong really, better than a saxo or a corsa.

Plans sound good apart from the remap, it really wont do anything so I wouldn't bother with that.
 
Welcome mate.. As mentioned avoid the 'remap' unless you've done heavy engine mods..
There's LOADS you can do to the 5 door models.. ;)

Thanks everybody for youre comments looks like i'm doing without the remap then :P and i'll be keepin updates on it as and when i get things done and i'll be takin more pics and stuff :D

yeah joe i've read the thread on youre car. I know theres lots you can do i've seen everything you've done to yours and its a beast:D if i could get mine half as quick as youres i'd be happy :P

looks like youve got yourself a decent little mota...

welcome to the club.

GTi wheels look the tits.... there is a group buy on KYB shoks at the moment...

Get yourself a GTi rear spoiler and put a rubber splitter on the front and youve got yourself a great looking car for little money..

least i'm not the only white 5 door :P . started on jobs earlier today will repost in members rides section with more details redone brakes new pads rear disks were seized sorted that out and made a start on gettin the rust off the rear quarter but i looked underneith and it was through so ive had to cut it all out :( i'll put pics up later cant atm cause am on mi break at work not enough time :P


thatnks for your comments guys gonna get hold of some gti wheels as soon as i can find some at right money and i dunno what am doin about gettin it slammed prolly just gonna stick new springs in then put in new shocks at a later date :D.

GTI spoiler sounds like a good idea thanks fossil for suggestion and splitter also sounds good but which one theres quite a few i've seen people put on?
