Newbie looking for new car! Trim levels etc

Hello,

I am new to this forum and have joined looking for some advice on the Almera I am about to purchase.

I have been looking at 2001 - 2002 Nissan Almera Sport and Sport+.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the difference is between the two trim levels as I have also seen SE and SE+ and if there is anything I should be watching out for on the 1.8l engine.

I cannot find any information on what the trim deifferences are?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Kind regards Ricky :D

Welcome to the club :).

I don't know much about this but here's what I do know. Sport+ has 16" Twist alloys over the Sport's 15" 5 spokes. Sport+ has a sunroof.

There will be some members who have these different trims. Maybe try searching the Members Rides section until someone can confirm all the difference for you here :).

Sport + has body coloured bump strips over the sports black ones
Sport + has 16 inch multispoke alloys over the sports 15 inch 5 spokes like Ed said previously
Not all Sport + had sunroofs however

5 doors of this age (up to 2003 when they stopped se/se+ for s/sve etc) have more interior goodies like case straps on the rear seats, rear map lights, and active head restraints and a 3 point rear seat belt.

Hope this helps Matt

Thank you thats brilliant!

The 16 inch wheels and the coloured moulding strips help make my mind up!

Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for when I go to view a few??

I am an Audi Master Technician so know my way round a car, just nce to be armed knowing a few "weak" spots!

Thank you again!

Kind regards Ricky

There have been some common problems on 1.5s (particularly the gearbox) but not much to look for on the 1.8s really.
Occasional sticky calipers and rusty cross-members are about the only thing I can think of (both are easily enough fixed) so just do the usual checks really.

erm...timing chain problems?

I dont know much about it myself, but wasnt there chain stretch issues on early N16's?

I think it was a weakness only if they werent serviced regulary. Is that true?

the timing chain issue was a problem on the early 1.5s, and it wasnt necessarily due to poor service history, nissan didnt actually accept it as a faulty part but that seems to be the cause.

Also cam and crank sensors seem to be tempermental aswell, again more or a problem on the 1.5s.

good luck matey

Yep this is one to watch for on any QA18DE engine.
The timing chain is more prone to stretching compared to other Nissy chain cam engines.
Excess rattle from engine should be the sign.
Usually chainy engines will have a little noise on startup till the oil lubes round, then they settle down quick. If it doesn't then it could be stretched and my need changing. Compare it to doing a cambelt on an Audi TT but maybe worse, (head off job).

But like others say, provided it's been serviced it should be fine.

I think there was also a manufacturers recall on the timing belt tensioners on some vehicles with QA18DE. Can check to see if the vehicle you are looking at is affected on VOSA's site. If the vehicle did need a recall Nissy dealer should be able to tell you if it's been done.

ive not heard of any qg18 timing chain issues, and again servicing doesnt seem to be a major factor, theres been people pop up on here reporting chain issues on cars with low mile and fsh on a few occasions :)

Oh yeah forgot about the side skirts (don't know how! they make the car in my mind)

Not sure that all Sport + have a 6 CD autochanger as my didn't?

Yeh the front crossmembers are prone for corrosion, if they get to bad it is a MOT failure, Best thing to do is when you get yours remove the front bumper and go mad with the wire brush and hamerite, then a top layer of waxoyl, not underseal as this tends to trap in any moisture and rust that you may have missed.

Hope this helps Matt

Thank you very much all!

I am going to look at two on the weekend!

A Sport +, W reg, black, 88k FSH and a Sport, 51 reg, 50k, FNSH...stunning little car but that Sport + is still tapping me on the shoulder!! ;-)

Will let you know what I get!! ;-)

As QG18DE's don't have timing belts, this isn't relevant. It was the early 1.5's that had timing chain/tensioner issues (Phase 1's = 1999 - 2002). I haven't heard of any recalls on the 1.8's that are engine related. They do sometimes suffer from sticky rear calipers though.

Hello All,

I purchased a 3 door Almera Sport+,Y reg, FSH, in silver on the weekend after looking at some rotters!!

2 questions, the right hand edge of the milometer lcd display is dark (as if the bulb is out) can these be replaced seperately?

Also, the rubber buttons on the key fobs (build into key body) are in a sorry state, can you get the buttons seperately or is it new key fobs?

Thank you!!

Kind regards Ricky
