Newbie... to the Almera

Hello,

First things first, my name is Jonathan Spackman, I'm 20 and I love cars, I enjoy driving and enjoy everything, from the trials of sticking to the speed limit (I've managed for over two years... *ahem* well not got caught) abd the thrills of getting your car down your favourite county lane.

Anyway, sadly I managed to have an accident, and so don't have any no claims bonus. I've been driving a Astra 1.6 LS, for nearly a year now, so hopefully I'll have one years worth of no claims, but sadly with an accident in the year before. My Astra, well I've got airfilter MOD and back box and sound system all done. But I'm board with it, its not a pretty car and deffently hasn't got the engine to play around with.

Anyway, I've been looking a lot at the Almera... I now want your advice and on what models there are out there. Where can I buy one with a budget of about 3k... I wish I could afford a GTi but I'm not sure I could get one for 3k... What models are there anyway, whats N15 and N16? Its really hard to find information out about the different models and years etc.

So please help me, I've made my mind up, I want one! I want to customise it as well, but all in good time.

N15 is upto 1999, N16 is 2000 onwards mate. You would easily get a nice Phase 2 GTi for less than 3k mate, and if you went from a Phase 1 they are starting from £1100 these days. Oh and welcome to the club :)

I wont go through everything, but
N15 Almera are the older shape (including the GTi) and they run from 95 - 00,
N16 are the new shape from '00 onwards.

You can easily find a GTi for under 3K!

There are two types of N15, phase 1 and phase 2.
These changes are more noticable on the GTi with different bodykits.
Phase 1 looks like a plain old almera with dull headlights and slated grille.
Phase 2 have crystal type headlights with honeycomb grille,bee-sting ariel at the rear and oval rear lights built into the original rear light clusters.

The Phase 2 GTi has a more aggresive body kit and the headlights and indicator clusters have a black mask around them.

There is also a 1.6 SRi, but realistically you should just aim for a GTi, as with this model the "SRi" really is just a badge.

So, on suggestion and also looking at the other posts and pictures I want to find a N15 GTi Phase 2... (I'm guessing these are Group 7)
Would a N16 GTi be a completely price range and insurance group?

And does anyone know of anything selling thats in good condition?

Almera's come is all different forms....

N15 1.4 - Group 4/5?
N15 1.6 - Group 7 (SRi ect)
N15 2.0 - Group 14 (GTi only)

N16 1.5 - Group 4/5?
N16 1.8 - Group 7?
N16 2.2 - Group 10

There is no such thing as a GTi in the N16 (later shape).

Realistically, a Phase 2 GTi can be had for under 3k, but have a look at the insurance costs before getting one.

I was insuring a GTi at 20, so it's all possible.

Have a look around the forums, there is alot of useful info on all areas of the Almera.

just adding on to what people have said the GTi is a group 14 insurance (as much as that actually means) and as for anyone selling one look in the for sale section, auto trader and ebay
 
Nearest to an N16 GTI is the Sport +.....is a group 7...few for 3K tho
 
Unfortunately the spec sheet for the N16 on the nissan website has the specs list blurred out - I assume because it includes the now discontinued 1.8 and 2.2 dci specs.
 
I've sent a mail asking to go and see the V reg...
The cars looks to be in mint condition and only 70k on the clock!!! Better than the 100k ones I've seen. I worried this ones going to sell quicker than I can sort things out though...

thats the one i was taking about in the general section, COULD be dodgy? got phase 1 shirts not phase 2, im going to try to get a look at it on saturday.

When I pip you there mate you can have my mint 97 gti, with 67k, phase 2 kit for £1800

i had to travel to kideminster other side of birmingham for mine mate went to look at one other side of manchester aswell.
