Newbie with a problem!

Right guys kinda new on here and have found this site useful and thought il ask on here as im having some problems with my 1996 almera gti.

basically while i was driving all of a sudden the car wont rev above 3k, if i keep my foot full on throttle it will keep revving from 2.5k to 3k thern back down to 2.5k rpm & back upto 3krpm.

I can drive the car in every gear but as soon as i go above 2.5k it starts juddering and if i let go of the gas the engine dies out! Or if i keep hold of the gas a little and slowly it will idle at only 500rpm.

Personally i was thinking it could be a problem with the spark plug or maybe injector but need a second hand opinion on this guys!

Some people have said it would be the maf senssor?

Also when i start the car there is a whinning noise, but once the car warms up it goes away and only comes back when i turn the steering wheel, im putting this down to the power steering belt or pump but can anyone clarify this?

Yes this sounds like a MAF, as i forgot to connect mine up once and when it started it was idling crap and would rev inbetween the rev ranges you have said...

Cheers for the fast reply bud ;)

Where abouts is the maf sensor located? is it an easy job to replace?

As i may give my old one a clean and see if it helps or get it changed.

As for my second query does it sound like it is the power steering pump or belt?

And thanked for quick rpely bud ;)

Maf is located between airbox and intake manifold, its brown in colour and clips in (i think**)

Your second query sounds like a power steering pump or maybe noisy fuel pump?

oh i forgot to answer your question its the airflow sensor that giving the problem (thats the box thats connected to the intake with the connector attached ) just try removing the connector and blow it out with some electronic cleaner or some compressed air which goes for aroun $5
