Newbie with Brake Pressure Issues!

Hi..

I'm a "newbie"

I have a severe and what seems to be becoming a costly problem.

I have a Almera 1.8 sport plus 2000 on a W plate...

It's just failed its mot on a seized rear brake calliper, the gargae were quoting £360 so I took the car away to a recommended garage from my brother... This is where its gone wrong...

The new garage have replaced the caliper but cant get the brake pedal to stop dropping after pressing the brake pedal down.. he has changed the front driver side caliper thinking that could be the fault... no joy... relaced the master cylinder... no joy... and is now seeking advice from a Nissan mechanic in Keighley... I'm not confiedent now with thos gagrage at all and seriopsly worried that the bill is going to be astronomical!

In basic terms, handbrake failure - cause seized rear calliper (s)?
rear calliper replaced - brake system not holding pressure.

the cause of this is either, a leak in the system, obvious to diagnose as there would be brake fluid everywhere so not that. And see as though this guys gone round in circles, I wonderd if anyone here has had a similar problem...

Thanks in Advance

He says so.

Says he crimped each caliper off in turn. got the brake pedal solid then when re connected the system the fail re occured... He's replaced a front caliper and a master cylinder, each without success.

I'm sure he's not on my car 24/7 but I really need the damn thing back and upto now he's got no answer...Says he's isolated the ABS system, bled and rebled the system so still at square one really

Has he reconnected the handbrake properly on the new caliper?

This is the only thing I can think of (no idea why it would affect the pressure without peeing everywhere though).

tell him to clamp the flexi hose of the caliper he replaced and sit in the car and pump the pedal. If the pedal goes hard. This show's its either air in the system at that caliper or the caliper at fault. A caliper can sometimes loose pressure without leaking.

Also when the rear caliper was installed he did pressurise the foot pedal and pump it up before the hand brake was applied? If he applied the handbrake before apllying the footbrake, the piston will require re-winding back into the piston, and this time the footbrake pressurised before the handbrake is applied. The handbrake should be the last thing sorted. If you apply the handbrake before pressuring the caliper, the caliper will be set up wrong and can cause brake pedal travel.

just thinking outloud mate, hope it helps
