Newbie

Hi guys, bit of a newbie here, just found you guys!

Looked at a gti tonite so have just come on to ask a couple of questions,

It's an r reg, so n15 I believe?

97k on the clock, really mint body work for the age of the car!

Only 2 things on my mind,
Ok start up for a half a second or so, there is a rattleon start up, sounds a bit like oil starvation, only for like half a second though.
Also on full lock to the right there is a quite loud clonk,

What's good to do to these power wise as well? What's good basics on these to get the power up? Do you need to forge to turbo?
I was thinking It would be good to go exhaust, mani, filter, cams and a remap?

AnyWay, hello guys, thanks for letting me onto the site, and thanks in advance for any help

welcome to the aoc.

rattle - could be tentioner on timing chain if car been sat for ages or just oil pump.
loud clonk - no idea could be wheel hitting arch?? are they bigger wheels.

power - that would do it. if ya wanna know about turbos dale is your man..

again welcome to aoc

Hi, a lot of GTis have a rattle on start up, if it`s quick like you describe it is`nt anything to worry about apparently.
It`s worth sorting out rust ASAP from my experience with the same year Gti.

You`re on the right track with the performance angle...although pay up for membership on here and you`ll find a lot more specifics:)

Hi mate
Chain rattle is nothing to worry about as long as its not mega loaud and in constant. If it stays for like 1 second on startup its normal.

The mod's you have said are bang on apart from a re-map. There is not much you can do with the standard ecu its not like a VW where remapping gets quite good gains. Some places will be able to chip your ecu however you might get 1hp from it most people on here dont bother The only way to remap is to use greddy e-manage or other piggy back ecu.

my gti used to rattle at start up so i did a oil and filter change with good oil and its gone.
i would also like to know wot is the best thing to do for power gain
