Hey all, My name is Kris i am from North East (not Newcastle). Thought i would join as i am thinking of buying a 2.0 GTi when i can afford it and have got rid of my current car. Was hoping I could find out as much about them by joining before i buy so i know what to look for.

As with all used cars, get the latest model lowest mileage you can afford. Nowt much goes wrong with them and the engines are pretty-much bulletproof. Common things are rust bubbles around the wheel arches, can't be helped but best to get it sorted. Have a browse around and i'm sure you will find all the info you are looking for!

Thanks Chris, I am thinking of around 97 age wise, rust is a common problem to me with my current car wouldn't expect it on these though. Have had a little look round, like you say will no doubt pick things up.

Just have a browse the site mate as there is loads of info. You won't be able to access all areas unless you take up membership unfortunatley.

As Hally has said, try get the later model GTi (late 97 onwards), this comes with a bodykit, whereas it was an optional extra on the 96-97 GTi's.

So far for me the Almera has been a very reliable car.

You'll also find alot of members from the North East, so if your ever get the chance to make a meet, you get 1st hand info and experience from other members.
 
I would be looking at the one with the kit :) Not many sites I am on have meets in the North East so would be good to meet up with some people for a change
