No Start but Locking Engages???

Anybody run into this before? Battery seemingly died overnight. Added a new battery and everything comes on and works except that the car does not start. What is throwing me is that whilst turning the key there is a repeating clunking from within the car as if the locking system is engaging the central locking. Reset the keys ok, and immobilizer light goes off as it should. I am familiar with checking the starting problems but can anybody tell me what the deal with the central locking is and what the connection is? Thanks
 
Probably wasn't the battery, but the starter. Give it tap with a hammer, roll the car forward a little bit, then try starting again. Either way it may need changing/checking.
