Oil dipstick well/tube needs replaced

Well, this is just great.

Dipstick broke, couldnt remove, had to cut tube to get the stuck piece out. Welded back together, but since it got cut in several places now my dipstick shows fat content of cheese and not the level of oil. Need the whole well/tube replaced. Cant find it, since tinos are rare here.

Can it be replaced and where can i get he part ? (including dipstick itself...) :wall:

I wish i had become mechanic. Tino is giving me so much trouble.... Just my luck with this car... gah...

Hello mate. I am sure it can be figured out by one of the experienced lads on here. They will be able to direct you to where you can get the parts.

The engine if i'm not mistaken is N16 ? Can i get one of the regular almera's wells/dipsticks to get replaced in my tino ? Will it be the same ? (My mechanic argues this, but at this point i'm going for second/third opinion...)

Could someone share workshop manual with me for tino ? cant find one "to borrow" on the net. PM me if you're willing...

if you get me a photo of the base ill be able to tell you what is involved! ive never removed a tino dipstick socant say of top of my head! as you find some a brazen in, some are simply gromet in.

can i ask though as i dont understand this

my dipstick shows fat content of cheese

you mean you have like a white/yellowish slush on the stick?

if so then id say more that you have water in your oil. as you should just be able to weld the tube back up easily enough!

I think thats what he means quicky, as you know, most poorly maintained cars have shit in the dipstick, and cars that are rarely maintained usually have dipstick problems as it rarely gets checked and therefore free'd up.

i was just wondering how anyone could break a dipstick, thanks simmo

with snapped dipstick i tend to find its the more maintained ones (or at least the more checked)

as the stick has 2 spot rivit type bits that hold the metal sleeve onto the handle plug, well when this is bent more and more over time - especially when the tubing is bent in the middle etc as some are - its breaks at the weakest point - which is these rivits.

i was gonna lead into checking the oil, make sure he didnt have a gasket issue fella! pre-warn if you like :)
but if its only a little bit then it may be moisture!
just getting him to confirm, and poss give him heads up

oh by the way! telescoping magnet gets them out 9/10 time - i have only once every had to drop the sump to remove one,.

if it was me!

going on the fact you say you have "cheese" on your dipstick
you have a bust shaft

i would drop the oil and remove the sump any ways!

its only 18x10mm bolts if i recall correctly. gives you chance to check out the pan for any metal shavings etc aswell ;)

well worth an oil change any ways!

just run the car for 20minutes before you drop the oil aswell, get it a bit more runny, as you will only ever drop 80% whilst doing a change!

I've not seen an N16 dip stick but if it's anything like Renault then it will be plastic and a piece of shit that will have seized in, then in an attempt to check it will have snapped in half.

Breaking a Gti dipstick is just about impossible so it cant be the same design.

ive had a few gti ones broken previously - but as said in my first post i aint seen a tino one so i dont know what its like!

with him welding it though! i cant see it being plastic,

A few? Seriously? I'm astounded. I cant understand if he means the dipstick guide or the dipstick itself, All newish renaults are plaggy but as its a Nissan varient i think it'll be like our mera's. If so i think they're doweled in?

Oy vey, what scare have i unleashed :D

The sentence about "measuring cheese fat content" meant that my dipstick shows bullshit and not a level of oil. Also known as Inaccurate, measuring device thats not fit for purpose, etc, That was an old joke :D Sorry for that, didn't expect it to be related to actual car problems :D:D:D hehehe :D made my day... sorry, not a mechanic mind... :D

No, oil is fine, its the fact that i cannot check it that bothers me.
One day i went to check oil and found only a wee stumpy bit of dipstick left in the hole... The rest was well stuck, as QuickDraw said, the conduit/tube is bent a bit. I dont know what my mechanic did (i suspect that his aprentice was doing the "doing" in this case) but now, after an oil refill the supposed "good/max" level is just ~1-2mm of oil on the very end of dipstick... Which is not good enough for me.

Went to check it a week a go and dipstick is dry. I know oil is there and all is pretty much ok, but i'm not entertaining the idea of every oil check needing a visit to a mechanic...

Will try to get some pics tomorrow to post here...
