Oil question. Re: Am i going mad?

Long story short, i always run Castrol Magnatec GTX 10w40 oil in my P1 Sri. Regular checks and changes means she runs sweet as a nut. However due to Castrols recent re packaging efforts (all large bottles are now 4 litres only instead of 5 for the Magnatec and 4.5 for RS formula and Edge sport) all the bottles look the same and ive taken a non magnatec 10w40 home, due to my shop being shut and the car being up in the air with not a drop in the sump ive had to run with the standard 10w40......and she runs better??? Smoother accelleration, quieter idle, feels more responsive at lower revs and slightly mor torque???

I know an oil change would give some of these characteristics but it not been long since i put the last lot of magnatec in it and can never remember it being this smooth to drive? Am i mental?

Nah, I've heard bad things (well not "bad" bad, but not great) about Magnatec and how it's pretty much a waste of money, if I were you I'd stick with the stuff that's in just now. :)

Ditto, marketing gimmic.

Halfords 10w40 semi-synth every time, runs as you say, sweet as a nut. Cheap on the trade card too. But what a bunch or tight arses, I bet when they repackaged the Castrol to 4 litres they didnt drop the price much, if at all... And 4 litres isn't quite enough for an oil change on a lot of cars.

Cost prices stayed eactly the same, think Edge 0w30 and 5w30 (VAG approved stuff) went down by a few pence. And as you say Veero the guides we go by when asked for a max level for an oil swap rarely goes below 4.2l. Only tiny engined cars are the exception and even then people laugh off the Castrol and buy our cheaper Carlube oils instead.
