Oil Types

I have looked on here and got some info on the above topic. On my next service (167,000 miles), I am considering upgrading to fully synthetic engine oil. Up to this point, I have used semi svnthetic and havent had any problems at all. My question is this, has anybody on here upgraded to fully synthetic and noticed a tangible difference in enginer performance, i.e do you believe its worth the additional cost - a gallon of semi-synthetic from Nissan (£14.35), halfrauds fully synthetic (£35.99) quite a difference in these hard economic times lol.

well if your engine is at 170k for figurative purposes you might find it will spew all the F/S oil back out the exhaust/seals etc.

better to be safe and stick with what you usually use, cause its not gonna make a huge difference to the running of the car

Im guessing the fully synthetic oil is of a lower viscosity than what Im using now. Definately going to stay away from the synthetic. I just asked because the wee chart you get in halfrauds to decide what oil is right for your engine markets synthetic as "the ultimate oil. offering the best in engine protection". Good job I got a second opinion from you guys!

Halfords should be taken to court for the shite they past up as advice, I honestly wouldnt trust any of the recommendations

Most oil producers will readily admit that fully synthetic oil is not recommended for high mileage engines. Especially if it's been used to a lower spec for most of it's life. Ross has it bang on when he suggests it would just escape through the seals/valves & out your exhaust. For the majority of us, semi-synthetic is more than adequate. :)

Fully synthetic oil is great if you've been putting it in from day 1 but on a 170k engine that has had so many oil changes with mineral/semi synth I'd stick with what it knows, as said :)
