ok here goes i have just bought an r reg untouched gti in green 92000 miles on clock with full servis history fo r almost 900 quid.i took one look an fell in love. i post pics as an when i can. good choice???

You can get good power out of these engines very easily... exhaust, manifold, decat, good air filter, and some cams if you can afford it.
A good set of springs and gas shocks or coilovers again if you can afford it
You will have a car that has good performance and handles well....

good choice bud, welcome, as above really, but to add made sure you tackle any rust and treat all the rust hotspots as soon as possible

i would like to get the best out of it at whatever cost can you advise me on the best after market parts to go for i have never owned a jap motor. but i have one now and want to treat it well. many thanks E

Standard is getting rarer. Consider 'hidden' performance mods and keeping the shell pristine. Get the rust treated/prevented before it happens. SR20 engine is very reliable and supremely upgradable so dig about online for ideas.

thanks mate. body has a few scratches not a problem. could you give me more about rust hot spots please. i have had a good look over her an all seems ok but maybe i might be missing something.?? cheers
