Opinions please

my opinion: save up for an sri or a gti.

why get another si that you will probably not want to keep for long...

I got a decent GTi for less than £750 and a nice 80k bodykit one went for £705 on ebay yesterday. If you can get insured thats what Id recommend.

Ummm... I had a GA16 that was still going strong at 126k +, but I dont think you can really accurately say the lifetime of smaller engines. SR20s often last 200k +

Insurance, i'm only 19 - been driving for less than a year :(

About £4,000 was last quote i got for a GTi haha.

Can't afford much more than the ins on the Si (£1,500 + Interest for paying monthly)

hmmm.. I assume thats fully comp. I think at 19 you could possibly get insured on a gti Third party fire and theft for about £150 a month, remember to put older people on as named drivers, it reduces your quote a lot. Elephant.co.uk and admiral are really cheap and do 10 month policy where you get a year NCB after ten months. I think I paid about £150 a month when I was 19/20.

Maybe you'd have to do pass plus or wait till your 20 or have 1 years no claims but it would be well worth it to get a gti instead of an si.

The red one does look clean and good nick if you are gonna get it though.

5 door is more practical tbh,
I've added dad as a named driver to drop it a bit, but its still coming out at £1,500 TPF&T! Elephant is about £1,580 i thinks

Not bothered about the power at the mo, the Si is ok for me, I'm thinking about getting the GTi when i'm about 21 or so, and insurance has come down.

Just want something cleaner than the one I have at the mo, and the red one does appear to be pretty nice.

the life span of the engine all depends on the maintenance of it for the 100 odd miles, corbs bought a gti with about 900 thousand miles on :D

personally id say its not worth it, yeah its fairly cheap but that looks to be either patch up paint or rust at tha bottom rear of the drivers door, plus if the engine goes bang your looking at possbily half the price of the car to replace it
