Overheating - making my blood boil :@(

I have the worlds most tempramental almera tino, when she's good she's good but when shes bad shes a cow.

Recently she's been overheating so, I got a mechanic round who checked the pump, changed the thermastat and the rad has been changed too. As well as this we know the cooling fans are working and have changed the coolant.

The damn thing is still overheating!!!! When it drives slowly the temp shoots right up but when you get over 40 mph the temp drops down to normal level again. Any Ideas????

The car is a W reg Tino, 1.8, Air con, 5 door, lovely ocean blue and a bit stained where the kids have spilt orange juice on it.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds obvious but has it been bled correctly? Check you get hot air through the blower and feel the difference in temperature in the top and bottom hoses of the radiator. Its unlikely but a blocked or duff heater matrix could be stopping the flow of coolant round the engine.

when your driving slow there is not enough air hitting the radiator to cool it, when you gather speed the wind will cool the water down.

Might be your Fan Switch that is at fault, that when the water is getting hot, its not switching the fan on.

what to do is start engine and let it run idle, wait to temp shows normal, if it starts to hit 3 quarters the way up and fan is still not switching on, its the fan switch,

there used to be an old trick to temp resolve it till you get a new switch but i have never done it on a nissan, and that was bridge the connector of the switch. might be a temp solution for you.

The engine is actualy getting hot rather than just showing hot on the guage, the fans ar kicking in and when I feel the air comming through the grill on the front it is comming out hot. The coolant is backflowing into the overflow bottle, i'll try the heater matrix this week and post how it goes. Tell me whats wrong with a car and I can look it up and fix it, dignostics is a gift i dont possess (well, i can diagnose a flat tyre) so thanks guys.
