P0301 fault code, which cylinder

Pretty straight forward question, hooked the mera up to an obdii reader historic codes showed a p0301. Thinkin of doin a coil swapbut whic. cylinder is number 1?

HI Liam, Cheers and I thought so

@Simcard - knowing helps when taking it to a mech by ensuring that i don't get FUBAR'ed for things i dont need, plus its not exactly difficult to change a coil pack, one wiring connector, one 10mm bolt.

As it turns out i took it to a mech to do some testing,

To run through the list of things ive already had done
EGR and both Lambda sensors cleaned
MAF tested (works and the car ran like an even dirtier pig without it)
New Spark plugs in each cylinder
Had a new coil pack tested in each cylinder, all existing coils are working fine
Recent new mid and back box exhaust (corrosion on the mid section)

Took it to my local mech (who did the coil pack tesing and tested a new set of plugs, read and cleared the fault codes from maf testing and the cylinder 1 misfire code that was on there from a historic fault) and hes said that its not a mechanical issue but something electrical so needs to go to either Nissan or a Auto-Elec specialist (and referred me to the guys he usually uses)

He also pointed out that my Earth cable from the battery is broken... So my next question is how easy is the earth cable to replace and secondly would that possibly be the cause of the loss of power im seeing on inital start up and the juddering around 4krpm??

obv an auto-elec specialist or Nissan diagnostics would be far more expensive than a new earth cable and the 10 mins it will take to bolt it on... Problem is I cant find anyone who supplies a suitable earthing cable for the battery (because internet searchs are all audio related for people with big amps and bigger ego's)

Any "grounded" (forgive the pun) advice is appreciated

Hey Guys cheers for the update,

My mech did earth the battery to the chassis using a jump leads but he doesnt do anything electrical so that was about the extent of his testing, but that siad there is a safety risk of not having a properly earthed battery and a frely swinging unterminted cable in the engine...

but... i got it into an Autoelectricians whos fixed the earth cable and the issues still there (imo fixing the earth was still needed cos its a fire risk)

Autoelec is also a mech (yippeee) tho so he's repeated the coil swap testing and ruled out all the plugs, the issues isolated to cylinder 1 (i.e doesnt move to cylinder 2 with the coil pack swap, wasnt cured with a new coil pack or a plug swap) and at the moment he's looking to test the leads running upto the coil in cyl1 for voltage drop, problem is the Autoelec has his day off on fridays so he's not in today to finish testing and diags on it, they're gonna have to keep the car till monday :(

ive tried having a look for new leads on tinterweb but seems like I can find leads for every damn almera variation but mine (2000 1.5) Google is not being my friend today.... does anyone know a part number or anywhere I can get a decent replacement lead from other than the local scrappy or a custom made one?? I presume the autoelec can order one if he finds a voltage drop across the cable...

I wouldnt be ordering a loom from Nissan, they'll bend you over backwards and rape your face to cover the cost of it.

Are you followin me Liam :p Yea thats why ive avoided goin to my local Nissan garage about it, but a part number would help me at least find one online to get a more realistic idea of costs
