Ok the pads on my Mera need replacing which are the best to get. I was told they’re the same as that start Almeras. Is this true?

imo...ebc green stuff brake pads are the best to get. They work really well will grooved/drilled disks too!

Or if you just want stock replacements, ebay probably has a few sets knocking about for not very much money! Think I saw a full set for £10 on there a while ago...

Rach.

Thanks Rach,

I do have first hand experience of the green stuff and you’re right it is very good. And on my previous car I did have them paired with cross drilled disks.

The Almera is really only a short term car so I think the standard stuff would be more appropriate.

Do you know if the brakes are bigger on the GTi than the 1.6, 2.0D cars?

i.e. will normal ones fit or do I need specific Gti pads etc?

you need specific GTi pads, go to your local cheap motor parts shop n get some standard quality replacements, they wont cost much.

ok fair enough can see why you would only want the standard ones then! yeah as k33 elv says...you need GTi specific pads. Think I might have got a new set laying about somewhere....everything's messed up as I'm in the process of moving house though!

Will let you know if I find them.

Rach.

Thanks guys, just needed to confirm they are different to the Non-GTi pads.

Service will be my priority this week so if you find that spare set of pads Rach. (and assuming the saving is worth it over local motor factors prices), i'll take em.

ok no worries, I'll have a look for them tonight.

edit: Just looked at the invoice from when I purchased them 1) it's only the front set I've got (sold the rears to my mate!), and 2) if I found them you could have them for £15, as this is what I paid!

Rach.

Ah, In that case for the sake of 81p I’ll get them from my local parts place.

Thanks for the offer anyway! It's appreciated

Well Sam, truth be told I was on the look out for a Honda Accord Type-R as a family car and this was only meant to keep me moving until I find an ATR.

I used to have a 1995 Primera eGT a while back and always wanted to try an Almera GTi. I told one of my friends he should buy one when he was looking for a short term car. He ended up with a 1998 S in RED.

Being so impressed with how much car there is in these for so little money, he bought another soon after selling his first one but then almost immediately decided to buy a SKYLINE R33. Since I needed a car I bought this one from him...

It was initially with the view of keeping it while I find a longer term family car but to be honest this blasted thing has really grown on me!

120K and still pulls very strongly. No knocking from suspension, no adverse use tell tail signs, nothing! Nice colour and body too.

I am trying so hard not to add personal touches with wheels, suspension etc... and that induction type sound is addictive! Ahhhhh!! Do they all sound like that? It doesn't even have an induction Kit!

Currently thinking about some comfy Recaro front seats

Oh no, now look what you've gone and done... slippery slope!

Red stuff are only for racing aren't they? I know they generate less dust than green, but considering I don't race, isn't it just pointless spending getting red?

No worries :) I couldn't find them anyway...must have packed them away good and proper!

Oh dear, wrong end of the stick there I'm afraid...

Greens are allegedly for 'fast road', but in truth I wouldn't use them for a leisurely drive to tesco, never mind push on them a little. I once drove a mates civic with them fitted (he never told me that he had greenshite), on a semi populated A-road, ie I wasn't even pushing, I managed to set fire to them, yep actual flames!

For occasional track/fast road try DS2500's, EBC Reds, Project Mu, Hawk Blacks. If your racing, go specialist, but I doubt there's any racer's round here anyway....

Not pointless, lots of guys on here use them with good results.

ok thanks for that...christ, they set on fire?!!? i'll stay away from those then! I was going purely from the manufacturer's description and a couple of mates' opinions who said green stuff combined with braided hoses and vented discs felt really good.

ok I'll write down that list...thanks for the tip!

I`m not having a go @ you Rach, but the manufacturers aren`t going to say "these are shite, go for redstuff instead!" are they? ;) :)

is it ok to run the redstuff even though there recommended for other use?? or are they still gona do the job, and just added extra products for extra money lol..

im looking at getting a new set of pads, but unsure what to get... was gona stick with green but I wana know about the red, they still going to be ok you's think??

As rowdy's already said redstuff are fine for road use aswell.
