Parking sensors not working

No sound comes on at all.

Where do I look?

It's a used car. Do I need to take the bumper off or can I just see if there is a loose connection if I slide myself under the car?

Thanks!

It a bit vague but I'll have a crack. All rear parking sensors are retrofit items. The control box should be behind the carpet in the boot on the passenger side inner arch. You can check power feed from there and also check the buzzer is able to vibrate. They can slip and get caught between the carpet and inner panel rendering them mute. These units always fail safe when the sensors are broken so it is most likely the control box power feed or buzzer.

If there is a loose connection behind the bumper then u would hear a continuous tone.

Worth checking earths are ok too and as spook says. But the buzzer is encased in plastic so it is free to vibrate anywhere. Loose wire in the boot and/or faulty buzzer/control box.

Thanks all, I will check shortly. If there are no loose wires, I will report asking how to test if the buzzer/control box is faulty.

If you press on the front cover of the buzzer it won't buzz. I had a problem with one for a customer a little while back. Every time I pulled the carpet away to check the buzzer it worked and as soon as I put it back it wouldn't. The wiring was fine but it was the diaphragm of te buzzer that was the problem.

Ok, found the problem.

Behind the rear left lights there is a circuit box where wires are connected. It looks like it has been previously repaired because there is electrical tape around some wired.

There is a black wire loose with a silver tip. When my friend touched it on to a metal screw and I put it into reverse, the beeping started.

Should I stick/solder it to a metal screw or should I get it attached/repaired professionally?

Thanks.

black is usually earth and sounds like you found the problem. Crimp a ring terminal on it and put it to an existing screw.

So I grounded the wire and I got someone to test while the car was stationary and I was in reverse. Each sensor made the correct sounds for the respective distances under the test. However, once it made a beeping sound when no-one was behind me. Is that to be expected on a used car? Could dirt be the problem (they look clean)? Am I wrong and it was probably a crisp packet/bird?

Thanks.

On a serious note, I've actually got the same problem been happening for a few weeks now. My eardrums have gone with that contionusly annoying beeeeep. Look forward to the final outcome to fix it. I think mine happened when I changed the lights to p1's.

Check theyre pointing the right way. They have a profile.

Mine is not a continuous issue though, it only happened once so I thought i'd see if anyone else has had it. I'll keep you guys updated.

Happened on my old Almera from time to time, until I realised dealer had not aligned them right. Spin them round until they are pointing straight back.
