hi all just picked up a gti today off a mate its a black gti non bodykit 1998 on a s and is completely standard, it had been his wifes car for the last 3 years and after putting 2 new tyres a clutch and a rear section exhaust, it failed its mot on 2 bits of welding in the rear wheel arch liners , he said this morning he was gonna scrap it, so we had a chat and 10 mins later i drove it away still with 2 weeks mot and 5 months tax for 200 quid and i only just got back from giving it a drive so will post pics tomorrow

yes total bargain welded it up today and gave it a wash, will start a proper thread tomoro with pics, but it has a mint interior and scratches on every panel but its never wanted in the service repair dept and is supposed to be 1 of only 8 in 1998 registeredin uk and only 2 were non bodykit but how true this is i dont know , i usually drive german but couldnt see this go to the scrappy for want of a few hours work and so far i love it
 
Dont believe its only 1 of 8. You see loads of 98 GTi's.
Not many non bodykit versions though.

thanks enjoying it so much i have put my recently aquired bmw up for sale but still got my rat caddy van for work, as a said before first jap motor i have wanted to keep is there anyway of finding out build numbers per year of the gti like there is with vw stuff
