Polished Rocker?

Finally got my temporary rocker cover on so I can play with my old one... i'm trying to get something to the effect of the above.

My sandblaster is crap, so was thinking about getting it professionally sandblasted then trying to polish it up... would this work?
What do I use to polish it?
Should I Laquer?

PS: Pic is from Minigibb's GTi, sorry for stealing it mate!

use autosol and a microfibre cloth to polish...you might probs wont need to sandblast as long as you give it A LOT of elbow grease. It takes fookin' ages to do by the way! lol and no don't laquer.

i used 1500 wet and dry (can get it from halfords) and autosol on a bit of my old one, still looked crap as the metal was pitted, so bits were shiny but there was alot of dull spots, soon got bored of that and sprayed it silver which took alot less time than polishing a little bit did.

Will try and get some 1500 w/d on it and work my lil fingers off and then 2000 or something before I polish it up loads with autosol and a microfibre cloth haha

Dunno how well it will turn out though, the rocker cover doesn't appear to be very clean at the moment!

Will probably get bored after 3 or 4 hours haha

i gave up polishing mine as it was a case of what sprint has said about the pitting and dull spots. so i did this lol

Could do with Minigibbs coming online and sharing some of his knowhow!

I don't mind spending a lorra lorra time polishing it etc, just worried it'll look shite when its done! :(

his was loads of time, cause i'm sure he had the car before he passed his test!! Thought about this but i'm just gonna spray it. What needs replacing after taking the cover off? noob question i'm sorry?

Nowt really matt. All should be fine. At worst, a new gasket but it should be fine. Just try not to have the head exposed too much (close your bonnet or something) so you dont get any dirt/debris in there.

Rocker cover gasket maybe? Might get away with using the old one though, Im meaning to do it just havnt got round to it.

Cheers dale. just thought i's ask while it was being brought up. Might just be safer to put new gasket in anyway then.

ive had mine off a few times only thing ive needed to do was re seal the U shaped cut outs on the chain end and by the dizzy, liquid gasket did the job fine.

this was how mine looked after it being done by the pro`s, be warned it`s hard work keeping it in that condition tho. forgot to say, when they are polished correctly, all the casting scabs around the edges are taken off aswell :D the best £50 i ever spent.

Where`d you get that done & how long did it take? (I`ve got a spare one that might end up looking like that for £50!)
