right, maybe another thing that needs sorting out. There is a knocking sound which is coming from my rear wheel area, right side. It doesnt happen all the time, just occasionally. But when people are in the back it tends to do it a lot more, so the more weight the worse it is... i thought it could be the exhaust banging butt that seems pretty damn solid. i also searched the forums and found a couple of things about wheel bearings... Is there anything else worth looking into? Ive only had the car about a month, so im just trying to sort out the little bits to make it awesome!

sounds to be the exhuast knocking on the rear axle, the scorpions exhausts are bad for this(you dont have one of those do you?) or if its custom one then the car has been lowered it happens to
wheel bearings dont knock so it cant be that, they hum
other thing could be a damper bottoming out or hitting the bump stop but Id put my money on the exhaust
 
yeh, i do have the scorpion exhaust, lol... so that will probably be what it is. Cause ive just got new shocks on (so im hoping its not them) and it still makes the same noise. cheers for that mate.
 
What some have done is cut out a piece of an old tyre (The rubber is hard wearing and fairly heat resistant) and tie it around the rear axle under the exhaust. As Steve says it's the exhaust hanging lower than standard (The scorpions especially), so it is more noticeable when people are in the back, weighing the car body down and thus closer to the axle :)
 
yeh, i was thinking that - some sort of heat resistant padded sleeving - if it exists,lol. Would you say that an old tyre is the best thing? i dont really want to have to replace the exhaust... so a simple, cheap and effective solution would be great!
 
I had a scorpion system on my old gti and it used to knock like f***. :mad: I used a large rubber exhaust mount from a sprinter CDI, cut the middle out of it and wrapped it around the exhaust. Worked a treat for me :cool:
 
Could be your shocks... My left rear side knocks, used to only do it occasionally, now does it all the time, and it's because my rear shocks are fubared. Then again so is the whole car at the moment...
 
since youve got the scorpion on you might want to check the rear hangers arent fouling the rear brake lines aswell

when you jack the car up to check jack it up by the axle not the body then you can see how its hanging when the cars on the bottom
