What sort of money am i looking at to get just a backbox sorted?
Because iam sure your all aware there are next to no straight bolt on backboxes to choose from.

cheers

think im speaking on behalf of a few folk on here,

DONT GO TO POWERFLOW

They dont do a very good job, ok some may but in general they are crap, there are much better guys out there,

iv got a powerflow full system, and must admit its pish, rattles like F**K, Been back to the dealer that i got it from, a few times, who have now went bust, so trying to get another local dealer to fix it again, but they are not keen.

this is a good quote from naylor, sums powerflow up really

"fuck powerflow man, if you want the job doing properly go to AAS, its just up the road from powerflop
0191 2673718
proper stainless, in want ever shape or size you want
I cant understand why people still go powerflow, they're dearer, crapper, and use shitter stuff "

Right but that doesnt leave much else? or where would you say are better?

That point is for 80% of the country there is no choice, it Powerflow or standard.

Longlife have only got 5 centers. they can hardly compete.

if you lived up here id reccomend AAS to no end (thanks naylor for bringing it to light)

they did my mates exhast today, and what a bloody fantastic job they've done too, they are nice guys, and they are clearly a good, well trusted company as they were working on a GTi-R, Supra, GTO and a corvette.

however yes, powerflow will probably have to do for you, they are franchised so some are going to be crap, but some will be ok.

Or just get a Universal backbox, & have any exhaust fitter fit it. Or if you want a full system do the above , then get someone to fabricate the exhaust piping for ya.

Shiny stuff wont make you go faster & at the end of the day, pipe is pipe. Its the shape, bends & diameter that count

until it rusts away into nice big holes.

...and to reply to your original question...

For a powerflow backbox only, you're looking around the £175 mark - which includes fitting and lifetime warranty.

JanSpeed do a backbox that fits the GTi (dunno what car you've got?), which is around £150, but unfitted and only with a 18 month warranty I think.

Gotta say, I've had my Powerflow backbox for about a month, and so far can't fault it.

If you have a GTi - Get a 3 inch Janspeed stainless backbox, fit it yourself, it's easy, just dont forget the gaskets and a bit of 'Gun Gum'.

If you have a 1.4/1.6 - Get a GTi centre section (around £60 to £80), this will go from your cat to the backbox (and will fit perfect, all meras use the same cat) and then all GTi back boxes will fit.

This way you get a propper job, it fits perfectly, looks good and works out rather cheap for a cat back exhaust

Majority of Stainless Steels will also rust, if not at the same time but a little bit after normal stuff will.

Dead simple really, a car should be undersealed, as whats the point in having a nice shiny rust proof exhaust while ur chassis's catching cancer. Any exhaust should be weather proof'd at the same time. Not by adding "Bling" to ur undercarrige lol

oh course you're not wrong there lad, the shape, bends and diameter are the most improtant part, thats exactly why you DON'T go to powerflow

as Ive said a million times before, they all use the same materials supplied to them by TopGear, some will be able to weild and bend better than others, but the boxes and pipes are shit to begin with

Theres got to be other places too for those not in the north east, unfortunalty, I cant tell you where coz I dont know either

Got My powerflow done twice, once at Extream Motorsport in Essex and that was a shit job and then at RSR Tyres in Bromley, Fantastic job there got a different backbox (straight through with perforated core) and decat all in for under £400 Can't fault it but it does really depend on which PF dealer you use

Cheers guys its a GTI iam running and the nearest flow dealer to me is Aylesbury but had a bit of luck as i work at a motorfactors of sorts i got a universal can for cheap!!.
I rang them to see if they would fit and they will for £80 so works out even cheaper and as you say there boxes are not great so in my case i wont be using theres!!. :)

i got a twin exit decat system from powerflow they did an awful job on the decat but the rest of it was sound!

Baz, it sounds like you've already made up you're mind, but I got mine done at Basingstoke. My cat-back system cost £350 (2" bore, 4" tailpipe and a subtle back box)... and I've got to say it looks and sounds the nuts. Not OTT at all! And as far as I can tell, there's no rattling, no loss of back pressure, no probs. I'm chuffed to bits with mine! :D

I think that cos it's custom, it depends on who fabricates it on the day. One day it could be the best bloke, the next day it could be the shoddiest! It's just the chance you take.

Yea i was thinking the same depends weather he has had a bad night on the Stella! and is felling like death and just lashes it on! not that i have ever had that sort of thing happen to me at work :P

I would agree with this powerflow are absolutely mince.

My exhaust hangs down to much, rattles, they welded the flange up wrong, where the pipe bends, the bore decreases to create further restrictions.

i have a hydraulic pipe bender at my work so i am going to see what i can do with it, if i can find some stainless pipe.

It just all depends on the garage who fits the powerflow some are good and have a good rep but yours is poor workmanship not powerflow itself.

as i said its all franchised, thats why the quality varies so much....

My powerflow silencer just after the cat says "Longlife Exhausts" on it? Only problems i had was that it hits the axel if theres more than 2 people in the car but im presuming its because the exhaust was fitted to my last almera that wasnt lowered.
