PROBLEM: Extra throttle/gas needed to start

On my 1.4Si P reg w/97kmiles i'm having an issue starting from cold, I have to feed it a little gas to get it going.

Any ideas?
 
hmm.. maybe its the start motor going?? next time it happens in the cold, try a push start, if it starts first time on a push, then it could be the starter motor... also, when was the last time you changed the plugs and did a service??

Hi, I got the car just one month ago so possibly the plugs may never have been changed. I'll take a look at them tomorrow. :)

Could it also be the battery / alternator, since I been having been losing .electrical power
 
yeah could be either of those...when you say takes a little extra throttle, do you mean it turns over fine but won't spark? or does it sound like it's labouring when you turn it over (like a flat battery). If you're losing electrical power...check your boot light goes out when you shut the boot! lol

Hey, I got a new battery installed today and it seems ok now. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if it really has made a difference.

I don't think the light in the boot works :/
