Quick tyre size question

Righto,

Ive been offered 4 Yoko AVS 195/50/15 for cheap as hell, and I mean really cheap

what they like anyone?? Will they be fine with my standard GTi rims?? Any 1 actually got these fitted, know what there like on roads, bends etc

The speedo or anything wont be affected will it??

also, any1 with pics of a lower profile tyre on a standard rim, wouldnt mind a pic cheers

195/55/15 are standard.

195/50/15 will fit, but especially on a non-lowered car hardly fill the arches.
 
reckon the arches will look even bigger?? lol

I think im gona get them regardless like, dont actually need them yet but will keep them for when I do

tyre pressure still gona be the same??

any pics any1? Dont even think they will look that much different really though..

My previous car was a 1.4si which was lowered by 35mm, with the gti alloys. i had the 195/50/15's put on because they were cheaper... the gap i had on the front arch was still quite big in my opinion, whereas the back wasnt to bad... but if the si and gti have different suspension it might look lower on the gti?? Cause im guessing that the gti has lower standard suspension... please correct me if i wrong!

Also, the guy that fit the tyres said that the speedo will read about 2-3mph faster then what you are going. He used some special calculation thing...

thats probs whats happening at the moment though, cant be 100 per cent sure that its accurate now!

hope it wont change the speedo too much like

whats the plus/minus's for having lower profile tyres?
 
heres my 2p's worth mate:

A low-profile tire like a 50 or a 40 look good, but can be harsh over bumps or potholes when compared to a 55 or 60.

a lower profile tire also exposes the wheel to damage more easily. Lower profile tires also have stiffer sidewalls, which improves handling but increases ride harshness, oh and lower profile tyres generate more tire/road noise

bear in mind that the bottom picture might not be the best one to go off as the boot may have been full of junk at that time, doesnt look much different to how it always looks though.

Looks normal really, if anything it does look canny though

As a note:

I went from 55s to 50s then back to 55s. My speedo was definately out with the 50s, not sure on the 55s, but the thing I noticed most was the ride comfort was a lot better with 55s.
