Re: N16 key fob NATS help

Hi guys,

Hope someone can help me out here. Been having some trouble lately where my key isn't being recognised, it's happened on the odd occasion (since I tried Garnz tuning box), but taken the key out & Turning solves the problem, it's been getting worse day by day, taking even longer & more & more tries turing the key, taking out locking etc.

Now the bugger doesn't even start. After quick turns sometimes (fluke) the motor kicks then does eventually start. But it's ridiculous now especially when I'm late for work :( .

Thanks in advance.

This has come up a couple of times recently. Loom, short, ignition ring, rattle key, temp works, extend loom, fixed.

Thank goodness thought I had to get my key done by the dealers, saying that I don't really understand what I need to do now..? Sorry I'm bit of a dope :)

Check the ignition ring wire, it might be stretched and frayed. Re solder as needed, maybe put a longer wire on. You'll need to remove all the cowling around the steering columb to do this.

Attempted to open the casing around the steering wheel to get to the wires didn't have the right tools so I broke it lose with a straight screw driver, looked abit complicated so thought I'd leave it to someone who knows what there doing, before leaving I thought let me just have a turn now see what happens, it's been turning no NATs flash or anything been a week now & all is fine. :)

I did, I tried 5 diffrent types of Philips+straight screwdrivers no luck, & no patience either but it's all clipped in back in place :)

Damn! Lol that's true as when I was having the promblem the nats didn't flash all the time I hope I don't get stranded in the middle of town again :(

Can the Nats be removed say by a remapper (rstuning)..?

Just cycle the key 5 times:
  • Turn it to the ON position (the one after ACC)
  • Wait 5 seconds
  • Turn off
  • Repeat above 4 more times
Apparently this retries the connection or something, and seems to help me out

NATs randomly come up the other day on my 3dr dci, fiddled about with the wiring again, started up first time & still going, going to get a friend to follow Edks advice above, don't want to get stranded in the middle of no where lol!

Ah so its not just me then

Been having nuts........ sorry I mean NATS issues for a while now, from total no go and NATS light flashing like a demented thing to it starting and the NATS light on the whole time after the engine start (N16 2.3 DCI SXE) other times it will start no issues no NATS flashing and everything normal.

Trouble is the no go is becoming more and more of an issue, the last two mornings it must have taken nearly 8-10 times of lock un-lock put key in and try again before in the end it turned over and started, again NATS light stayed on after starting, yet this evening it started fine and no NATS light ???

I wondered if its the keyFob battery, is it worth changing that and if so is there any recoding required if you change the battery in the fob ?

Its not the battery, its the wiring as stated.

The battery is only there to lock/unlock and has nothing to do with the immobiliser chip (it doesn't need any power)
