Spent 10 minutes trying to work out how to replace the bulb on my nearside. Only to check the other side, see it's completely different and realise I only have the one.

I'm worthy of the newbie section for sure.
 
Yep, you have found it out then, only 1 fog light on the Almera which is on the driver's side. The passenger side one should be blanked off I would have thought, not looked the adaptor before to see but if it is the same as my Megane then there is something there stopping you from putting a bulb in anyway.
 
was conterplating putting the second fog light in but never got round to it
 
I've fitted a second fog to mine - need to acquire a suitable bulb holder and bridge the connection across from the other light - was a little bit fiddly (especially getting the bulb holder to locate in the blanked-off recess) but all is fine with it now - even went to the extreme of separating the n/s rear cluster to fit the fog reflector plate (acquired from a donor o/s rear lamp) to ensure the correct shape and intensity of the other light.
 
was also thinking about putting side lights in there aswell just need the right buld holders, wiring bit dont bother me
