Ive just repaired some rust on my drivers door and its ready for Priming, just wondered which paint you guys would recommend for my RED ALMERA GTI.

Is there a ceratin shade or is it a fairly standard colour.

Cheers.

You need the paint code mate. Its etched on the VIN plate or it might be stuck on a sticker on the door of the car.....or maybe thats not japanese cars.......its on 1 of the 2. You need that code or it wont match and will look poo and all your hard work will of been wasted!

The colour code is on the back of the engine bay on a metal plate under the windscreen when youve got the bonnet up...it will be a 3 digit code (for example mine's JT3). As syms says, it'll look poo if you dont use this!

thanks i knew it was in 1 of 2 places, so used to working on all sorts of cars i always get confused about my own :P

Actually, scratch that, they aren't! lol

If it's Red Pearl Metallic it will either be AP0 or AT4, if it's a Solid Red it will be AR2

no worries :) I looked in 10 different places on the car before I found it...had a little diagram with all the possible places going 'no....erm....no...oo! oh no....ah ha!'

Thank you very much everybody, very mich appreciated.

While im on, whats a quick way to clean my engine bay???
Its become very grimey!!!

Cheers.

You could use Gunk (either spray on, or the stuff you apply on with a brush) then hose the engine bay down afterwards, did a good job to my old Micra when I had it :)

Make sure you cover the electrics with plastic bags or tin foil first though! This guide is quite good...someone's posted it before but cant remember who!

Clicky

I must admit, I didn't do that, and i even gunked my alternator and it started first time, gotta love old 1990s bulletproof Nissans!

But yes, covering the stuff up is a good idea anyway just in case! :)

Not to piss on your bonfire, but even if you get the correct paint for the almera, the likely hood is that it wont blend in. Your cars likely to be getting on for 10years old and the rest of the car will have ever so slightly faded in all different areas. Especially with your car being red, it'll be really bad. Only going off what mine was like.... shite hence the respray

if you go to a good bodyshop they will match the faded red. But if your doing it yourself obviously you cant. I wouldn't even no how lol. Maybe the way you layer the paint on or summit fuk nas

They match it by mixing the colour to the paint code and then 'adjusting' it to the bodywork, so adding a bit more white or whatever...it's a horrible job and takes forever to get right!
